SUMMARY:A Tale of Two
DESCRIPTION:Combining the best of Americana and blues melodies with timeless Southern storytelling\, award winning vocalist Stephanie Adlington and guitarist Aaron Lessard draw influence from the likes of Tom Waits and Ray LaMontagne\, along with bedrock artists such as Patsy Cline and Hank Williams Sr. Most recently\, the duo has opened/played alongside artists such as Mary Gauthier\, Peter Mulvey\, and Grayson Capps. Not unlike the artists who inspired them\, the duo’s songs frequently dabble in stories of revenge\, drinking and feature sinners of all stripes and persuasions.  Oozing an infectious stage presence and chemistry that carries over from the music to the back and forth banter between songs\, “A Tale Of Two” offers a different kind of Americana – storytelling by a swampy pair of retro raconteurs spinning blues arias with soul\, intrigue and power. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.

SUMMARY:Topher James
DESCRIPTION:Topher James was faced with a difficult decision around 2007. Choose a stable corporate job\, move up the ladder and risk losing all of his passion for art or choose a much more difficult path of being a professional musician. Easy to look back and say it was the right decision\, but the path was not an easy one. A difficult decision to turn away from mainstream stability\, but Topher’s goal was to truly explore what it would be like not only to have music as a job\, but as a way of life. With a common thread in the music he loved – a captivating melody\, powerful emotional depth\, and soulful essence – he is inspired by legendary artists like Sam Cooke and Donny Hathaway\, as well as contemporary R&B and Gospel inspired talents such as Emily King\, Leon Bridges\, Yebba\, Alicia Keys\, and more. \nThis show will take place in I Like It Like That. \nRESERVATIONS and TIPS are strongly encouraged for our FREE Shows! \nI Like It Like That is a 21+ room.

SUMMARY:Mery Steel
DESCRIPTION:Canadian-American songwriter Mery Steel wants to melt your ice-cold heart. Fortunately for them\, you won’t be able to help it: that’s just the temperature they operate at. Don’t be surprised if you burst into tears while dancing and scream-singing. It’s by design. \nEmotional upheaval is a material force in Steel’s songwriting: undulating\, color-changing\, and ultimately wild\, bracing themes of love\, hate\, jobs\, chronic pain\, and perseverance. Their guitar-driven sound testifies to varied influences\, with songs ranging from sinuous alt-country tearjerkers to breezy pop bops to groovy blues rock rippers. You might hear Jennifer Warnes or Loretta Lynn in the vocals\, but Mery will growl on the mic as readily as they’ll croon. \nEvery generation deserves beloved songwriters to tell stories about the state of ecstasy and heartache with timeless mastery. Songs that endure for generations. Mery Steel is on their way to becoming just that—an enduring\, cross-generational songwriter and beloved storyteller. \nSteel released her debut album in January 2024. With a moody sophomore release slated for 2025\, the singer is well-rigged: with their guitar\, a top-tier band\, and an ineffable inner flame to bring audiences back to life. \nRESERVATIONS: Reservations are strongly encouraged for our free Happening Hour Shows!

SUMMARY:Andy Cohen + Eleanor Ellis + William Lee Ellis
DESCRIPTION:Acclaimed folk/blues artists Andy Cohen\, Eleanor Ellis\, and William Lee Ellis come together for the first time in decades to celebrate their new trio album for Riverlark\, Whistlin’ Past the Graveyard\, a collection of 21 traditional and original songs and instrumentals that marks a return on record following their classic 1990s Marimac outing\, Preachin’ in That Wilderness. \nANDY COHEN is a virtuoso finger-style guitarist described as “a walking\, talking folk-blues-roots music encyclopedia.” During the Sixties folk revival\, he got hooked on the music of luminaries old and young\, from Big Bill Broonzy to the Jim Kweskin Jug Band\, although his most profound experience came at 16 when he first heard blues/gospel icon Rev. Gary Davis. He has since devoted his life to studying\, performing\, and promoting traditional blues and folk music of the pre-World War II era and has toured and played with\, among others\, Martin\, Bogan & Armstrong\, John Jackson\, Rev. Gary Davis\, Jim Brewer\, and Honeyboy Edwards. Based these days in Memphis\, Tenn.\, Andy holds a master’s degree in anthropology and has more than a dozen recordings to his credit\, including Oh Glory\, How Happy I Am: The Sacred Songs of Rev. Gary Davis and numerous albums on the Earwig label. He is a recipient of both the Eisteddfod Award from the Eisteddfod Traditional Music Festival and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the California Autoharp Gathering. \nELEANOR ELLIS has been praised “a celebrated master of the country and Piedmont blues\, one of the most significant women in the acoustic genre” (Living Blues). The Louisiana native has performed at clubs\, festivals\, and concerts in the U.S.\, Canada\, and Europe\, notably with gospel street singer Flora Molton\, bluesman Archie Edwards\, and\, on occasion\, Delta blues great Eugene Powell. She is a founding member of the DC Blues Society and the Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation and is producer/editor of the noted Piedmont blues documentary Blues Houseparty. Among Eleanor’s many recordings are the recent albums\, I Do Just What I Do and Comin’ a Time\, both on the Patuxent label\, appearances on numerous anthologies\, and two records with Flora Molton\, I Want to Be Ready to Hear God When He Calls\, and Flora Molton\, the latter made for Radio France. Eleanor has also worked at the Archive of New Orleans Jazz at Tulane University and at the New Orleans Jazz Museum. \nWILLIAM LEE ELLIS is a roots music fingerpicking guitarist and songwriter who has been hailed a “wizard on steel strings” (Blues Revue) and “one of our finest contemporary songwriters” (Living Blues). He has released five albums on the Yellow Dog Records label\, notably 2023’s Ghost Hymns – a Blues Music Awards nominee for Acoustic Blues Album of the Year – and he has backed his faither banjo/fiddle composer Tony Ellis\, on numerous studio projects and in concert. William holds a PhD in ethnomusicology\, has played Mountain Stage\, MerleFest\, and the Kennedy Center among other venues\, and is a guitar-instructing alum of Jorma Kaukonen’s Fur Peace Ranch and Augusta Blues Week. He lives with his wife and daughter in Vermont\, where he is Professor of Music at Saint Michael’s College. \nThe trio will be promoting their new album on tour through much of 2026.  \n“If you like the acoustic play of Jorma Kaukonen\, this is similar territory\, with songs grasped both from history and from now…Old timey has seldom sounded so good timey.” – Sam Lewis\, At The Barrier \n“This is an album for lovers of vintage blues\, folk\, and country—and particularly for those who are enamored with artists like Ry Cooder. You can certainly leave it to this trio to make a music history lesson entertaining from start to finish.” – John Gjaltema\, Altcountry.nl \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.

SUMMARY:Willy Tea Taylor & The Turkey Buzzards
DESCRIPTION:There is no question that Willy Tea Taylor’s life as a singer/songwriter was predetermined – his role realized the moment he wrote his first song. His inspirations drawn from two separate wells; Living the life of a cattleman’s kid and experiencing true visionaries music like Greg Brown\, John Hartford\, and Guy Clark. The image of Guy Clark and friends sitting around the kitchen table loaded with ashtrays full of butts\, half-smoked cigarettes\, food\, and booze on one Christmas Eve in 1975 burned into Taylor’s soul. Those guys\, swapping songs without pretense\, lit Willy Tea’s fire. And ever since\, its led purpose with passion – finding a hang by curating relationships through musical friendships that get him closer to his own Clark style kitchen table. \nFrom his early days co-fronting The Good Luck Thrift Store Outfit\, to singing solo in countless cowboy bars\, to pitching countless wiffle ball games\, Willy Tea has never lost the vision. Now Willy Tea Taylor has taken his vision of the “hero hang” on the road. and his talented traveling band The Fellership is made up of his fantastically talented buds who play Willy’s songs with a brand of reckless abandon and utter humility that spits in the face of pretense. The way The Fellership plays Will’s songs is the way they demand to be played and\, in their short time together\, they have been awe-ing every audience lucky enough to see them. \nThe Turkey Buzzards  \n \n“Much like the duo themselves\, the songs range near and far\, from the sticky humidity of the Carolinas to the arid and dusty cellars of the West\, telling stories of simplistic beauty that unravel through gritty vocals and thoughtful harmonies. The bare authenticity of each song sweeps up the listener for a ride that might wander but will certainly not end in the same place where it began.” \nDylan Nicholson (Greensboro\, NC) and Eric Patterson (Lodi\, CA) formed the The Turkey Buzzards in Morro Bay\, CA and have shared stages with John R. Miller\, Robert Earl Keen\, Jeffery Martin\, The Deslondes\, Dawes\, White Buffalo\, Brothers Comatose\, and frequently join Willy Tea Taylor as members of The Fellership. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.

SUMMARY:George Barrett & Friends
DESCRIPTION:Sharing the stories behind his original songs and visiting some favorite covers\, George will be joined by a band of Columbus all-stars as well as special guest Sarah Gross. \nGeorge’s unique path from musician to business leader and back to music has endowed him with a perspective as diverse as his musical influences. George grew up in a family of musicians\, in a home filled with the sounds of classical\, folk\, rock\, blues and jazz. His diverse musical upbringing\, combined with his buttery voice and natural comfort on guitar and piano\, laid the foundation for an eclectic and rich music journey. After honing his skills as a session singer and performer in the vibrant clubs of NYC’s Greenwich Village\, George took a detour\, embarking on what would become an extensive career in healthcare without ever letting go of his musical roots. SUMMARY:Blues & Beyond: Lil' Red & the Rooster\, Reggie Jackson & Jeff Ciampa
DESCRIPTION:Natalie’s\, with support from the Columbus Blues Association (CBA)\, presents Blues & Beyond Happening Hour. This weekly series will include a special guest for each show! \nSome might say jen M of Lil’ Red & The Rooster has excellent taste. We wouldn’t argue. She wouldn’t either. \nFor this Happening Hour on Charlie’s Stage\, she has hand-picked two of Columbus’s most absurdly talented musicians to join her and French Blues playing husband Pascal Fouquet for an evening of Retro Modern Blues that nobody planned and everybody needed. Every one of these shows is its own living\, breathing\, unrepeatable thing — same songs\, different magic\, zero guarantees except that you will feel good. \nAnd the best part? It’s completely FREE. \nThat said\, four world-class musicians walked in the door tonight and they all have rent due. If the groove moves you — and it will — tips are how we keep the lights on\, the music coming and the Rooster fed. \nJen “Lil’ Red” Milligan — Born in Columbus\, Ohio with a hairbrush for a microphone and absolutely zero chill. Decided at age 6 that singing in the church choir wasn’t enough and has been causing beautiful trouble ever since. Survived Broadway\, Europe\, a broken voice\, grad school in Boulder where she rolled around on the floor making strange noises for a Master’s degree\, and a serendipitous detour to France where she fell into a jazz club and never fully came back out. Somewhere between Hair\, Jesus Christ Superstar\, Rocky Horror\, a rock band called The Sex Slaves\, martial arts\, jazz dance with a legend named Luigi\, and a washboard — she found the Blues. The Blues was waiting. It knew. International Blues Challenge Finalist. Global Music Awards bronze medal winner. Certified bone-tremblin’ force of nature. Will invite you into her heart and then give you a piece of her mind. You will thank her for it. \nPascal Fouquet — A child in Normandy picked up a guitar at eleven. Then B.B. King reached his ears and the classical guitar didn’t stand a chance. Has been one of the most decorated Blues guitarists in France for decades\, which the French take very seriously\, and so should you. Crossed the Atlantic\, married Lil’ Red\, immigrated to Columbus\, Ohio — a series of excellent decisions. His story is in his playing. If you want more than that\, catch him with a whiskey or espresso and he’ll tell you face to face. That’s how the Rooster rolls. \nReggie Jackson — Ohio State Jazz Studies graduate who apparently looked at his degree and thought “cute\, but not enough.” Proceeded to spend 11 years on the road with jazz legend Diane Schuur\, tour with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Dr. John\, appear on The Tonight Show\, play in 25 countries\, join Bobby Floyd’s trio AND the Columbus Jazz Orchestra\, and perform alongside Arturo Sandoval\, Terence Blanchard\, Dee Dee Bridgewater and a frankly unreasonable number of legends. Shows up to a Happening Hour on a Wednesday like it’s nothing. It is not nothing. We see you Reggie. \nJeff Ciampa — Founded the Hoodoo Soul Band in 1995 which makes him basically Columbus Blues royalty. Has been the first call for pretty much every serious musician in this city for thirty years. His bass lines don’t just hold down the groove — they own it\, pay the mortgage on it and have the deed framed on the wall. Shows up. Delivers. Every time. His pocket is so deep cartographers have tried to map it. \nTogether they’ll open the music to surprises and  Come early\, stay late and shake a tail feather or two. \nTheir latest album 7 (2025) featuring Grammy-nominated pianist Bobby Floyd won two Global Music Awards for Creativity and Best Album. Find their music on Spotify\, Apple Music and all streaming platforms at www.lilredandtherooster.com. \nThe Columbus Blues Alliance (CBA) is a non-profit organization founded to help preserve and nurture blues music and is an affiliate of the Blues Foundation in Memphis. They are an ALL-volunteer corporation depending on the generosity and charity of members to donate their time and energy towards providing programs to support musicians. \nRESERVATIONS are strongly encouraged for our FREE Happening Hour Shows!

SUMMARY:Deke Dickerson & Kyle Eldridge
DESCRIPTION:America’Roots music superhero Deke Dickerson  is coming to town. \n“It’s a tough job\, but somebody’s got to do it\,” claims journeyman musician/singer/entertainer Deke Dickerson. As usual\, Dickerson adds dry wit to a serious proclamation of his career intent: keeping America’s roots music alive while interjecting new creativity—a blood transfusion\, if you will—into genres of music that flourished in decades previous. Such efforts have rewarded him with the Ameripolitan “Musician of the Year” award\, among other accolades. \nDeke Dickerson is 52 years old and has been carrying the torch since he was 13\, playing in his first rockabilly band in his hometown of Columbia\, Missouri. After moving to Los Angeles at the age of 22\, he carved out a niche for himself in Tinseltown. In addition to playing in his primary band\, Deke Dickerson and the Ecco-Fonics\, as well as his newest group\, Deke Dickerson and the Whippersnappers\, Dickerson has provided rootsy music for a slew of television shows and movie projects (including scoring the music for Johnny Knoxville’s Paramount Pictures film Action Point). \nDickerson was born in St. Louis\, Missouri. After playing in several local rockabilly bands\, Deke formed The Untamed Youth at age 17 in his hometown of Columbia\, Missouri. In 1991 he moved to Los Angeles and joined Dave Stuckey to form the Dave & Deke Combo\, a partnership that yielded two albums and a 2005 reunion at major rockabilly festivals. Joining the Ecco-Fonics in 1998\, Deke toured\, signed to HighTone Records and released three albums for the label. His style incorporates country\, alternative country\, rockabilly\, hillbilly\, blues\, western swing and rock ‘n’ roll \nDickerson writes a regular column in Guitar Player magazine and feature articles in Vintage Guitar magazine and The Fretboard Journal. He also organizes an annual “Guitar Geek Festival” held in Anaheim\, California\, every January\, during the NAMM Show. He owns a Ray Butts EchoSonic\, serial number 24\, a rare amplifier with built-in tape echo that used to belong to Scotty Moore. \nKyle Eldridge \n \nKyle Eldridge is a Country & Western singer songwriter from Louisville\, Kentucky and known as one of the most prominent guitar players in the traditional scene for his Maphis/ Travis picking and Western Jazz styling. \nHe got his start playing in the south where he met Upright Bassist Dakota Collins who brought him to Nashville\, Tennessee. They began playing Honky Tonks on the famous Broadway strip and soon after\, he recorded his debut EP in Los Angeles\, California at Deke Dickerson’s studio. \nHe has played next to such artists as Jim Heath of Reverend Horton Heat\, Shaun Young of High Noon\, Jody & Rose Lee Maphis\, The Lucky Stars\, Dale Watson and many more.  Dubbed the “Heir Apparent” by Larry Collins of The Collins Kids fame\, Kyle Eldridge has been burning his way into the Country & Western scene and has quickly become in demand both domestically and abroad. You can catch his show case at a music festival or a night club near you. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.
