SUMMARY:Red Healer
DESCRIPTION:Red Healer fuses folk and soul with light-hearted lyricism that never takes itself too seriously. Their songs\, complete with tight harmonies\, deep emotion and musical adventures\, focus on positive and inspiring themes in a time that is harsh and unforgiving. \nFormerly known as Clemens & Co\, this group of musicians had been working together for years performing original blues rock\, pop and soul music. But when the COVID-19 pandemic stunned the world\, the group rebranded to write songs that would help heal people emotionally\, and an image that reflects their sound. The new name was inspired by a red heeler (Australian cattle dog). \n

SUMMARY:David Grier and Appalachian Swing w/ Chase Potter
DESCRIPTION:Appalachian Swing and David Grier\, along with special guest Chase Potter\, join forces for an engaging night of music! Appalachian Swing is an exciting new band that took their name from the Kentucky Colonels iconic album. David Grier is one of the greatest flatpicking guitarists in the world\, and violinist/composer Chase Potter is accomplished in multiple genres including power pop\, indie rock and experimental music. \nAppalachian Swing \nAppalachian Swing\, featuring Adam Schlenker (guitar)\, Hayes Griffin (Mandolin)\, Todd Sams (banjo) and George Welling (bass) is a band that is building its sound around the Kentucky Colonels brand of bluegrass\, and has wowed area audiences with their energy and amazing musicianship. \nDavid Grier \nDavid Grier’s journey has included touring and recording with established acts such as “The Country Gazette” and International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Hall of Famer\, Doug Dillard. In 1988\, David began recording a series of critically acclaimed solo albums for the Rounder Records label that pushed him to the forefront of the Bluegrass scene and brought him three IBMA Guitar Player of the Year awards. In 2000\, David was recognized by Acoustic Guitar Magazine as one of the “Artists of the Decade” and he has played on four Grammy Award-winning albums. \nChase Potter \nChase Potter started his music career just shy of five years old on the violin\, and it wasn’t long after when he began absorbing other instruments.  Potter’s musical prowess would lead to a distinction unlike any other: a full ride to the Berklee College of Music.  In New York City\, Potter dove head first into the city’s vibrant music scene as a multi-instrumentalist. His musical opportunities were ample and distinguished—perhaps most notably as a featured violin soloist with Wynton Marsalis at the Lincoln Center and he found himself in front of the camera performing violin on The Tonight Show with Machine Gun Kelly and Camila Cabello\, as well as a fictional guitar player on the season finale of HBO’s The Deuce. Chase Potter’s mission has always remained simple and steadfast: be true and vigilant through the power of music.   \n

SUMMARY:Popa Chubby
DESCRIPTION:Popa Chubby\, born Ted Horowitz\, has been hard rocking the blues in his fierce and soulful way for more than 30 years. Over the course of a career that dates back to 1994\, he has been a force of to be reckoned with on the guitar\, and his tempestuous\, soulful playing has never been more powerful. An imposing figure with a shaven head\, tattooed arms\, a goatee and a performance style he describes as “the Stooges meets Buddy Guy\, Motörhead meets Muddy Waters\, and Jimi Hendrix meets Robert Johnson\,” Popa Chubby is an endearing character who is one of the genre’s most popular figures. \nHis career has always been about moving forward and carving a place for himself in the imposing terrain of the music business\, overcoming odds to continue growing and maturing as a creative force. He has built a constantly increasing base of fans across the world\, where in many territories he is a star. A native New Yorker\, Horowitz’s first gigs were in the NYC punk scene as a guitarist for what he reflects was a “crazy Japanese special effects performance artist in a kimono called Screaming Mad George who had a horror-movie inspired show.  The Blues\, however\, was the foundation of his playing style.  \nOur full food and drink menu will be available during the show through the QR code at your table in the Music Hall. SUMMARY:BEAUSOLEIL AVEC MICHAEL DOUCET: 45TH ANNIVERSARY & AU REVOIR TOUR
DESCRIPTION:For the past 45 years\, BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet has been making some of the most potent and popular Cajun music on the planet. Born out of the rich Acadian ancestry of its members\, and created and driven by bandleader Michael Doucet’s spellbinding fiddle playing and soulful vocals\, BeauSoleil is notorious for bringing even the most staid audience to its feet. BeauSoleil’s distinctive sound derives from the distilled spirits of New Orleans jazz\, blues rock\, folk\, swamp pop\, Zydeco\, country and bluegrass\, captivating listeners from the Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans\, to Carnegie Hall\, then all the way across the pond to Richard Thompson’s Meltdown Festival in England. \nTheir most recent album and the 25th in their 45-year career\, was titled “From Bamako to Carencro\,” alluding the cultural and migratory connection between Bamako\, in Mali\, West Africa\, and Louisiana (symbolized in name by the Lafayette\, LA suburb of Carencro)\, a connection that draws a sonic bloodline back to BeauSoleil’s roots. Since becoming the first Cajun band to win a GRAMMY with “L’amour Ou La Folie” (their Traditional Folk Album – 1998) and then a second Grammy in 2010\, “Live at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival”\, BeauSoleil has garnered many accolades\, including twelve GRAMMY nominations. They are regular guests on Garrison Keillor’s NPR show A Prairie Home Companion\, where Keillor has dubbed them as “the best Cajun band in the world\,” and their music is so integral to the Cajun culture that they have been featured on the New Orleans–based hit HBO program “Treme”. Critics unanimously agree that it is “bon temps\, every time they play\,” (New York Times). \nLaissez Les Bons Temps Rouler!

SUMMARY:Albert Cummings
DESCRIPTION:Albert Cummings is a singer and guitarist who has played with many of the greatest players of the modern era and received the kind of awards and recognition that few others do. Raised in Massachusetts\, it was a 1987 concert by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble that opened Cummings to a new world of modern blues and inspired him to take up the guitar. It didn’t take long from there for him to find his way to the front of the pack. In fact\, Albert Cummings’ very first album FROM THE HEART (2003) was produced by Double Trouble’s Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon and included the group’s Reese Wynans on keyboards. That had not happened before Cummings’ release. \nFrom that first album\, the burgeoning blues world of the 2000s opened its doors for Albert Cummings. He recorded several albums for Blind Pig Records\, and on 2012’s NO REGRETS the guitarist extended the boundaries outside the blues world to include country and rock influences like he really hadn’t before. It was obvious that the musician did not want to limit himself in any way\, and saw a wider possibility for where his music could go.  The release of his brand new album TEN on Cummings’ own indie label imprint Ivy Music is a full realization of that possibility. \nWritten by Cummings\, the 13 tracks feel like a compelling and extremely emotional summation of what the artist has seen and done. The evocative way the lyrics capture Cummings’ life and his early days in music captures with exquisite detail how someone in his world went on to make such a strong impact on modern blues and beyond. \n Albert Cummings has always prided himself on not putting limits on the music he can create. And it takes that kind of inner belief to keep growing\, no matter when you start or where you go. Which is why this new album has raised the bar to a place where everything feels possible. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available during the show through the QR code at your table in the Music Hall. If you have General Admission tickets and would like to eat before the show we encourage you to make a reservation for our restaurant side by calling us during business hours at (614) 436-2625!

SUMMARY:Friends of John Henry Benefit Blues Show
DESCRIPTION:The Columbus Blues Alliance and Natalie’s present a special benefit concert to support blues musician John Henry\, who was recently injured at his day job and had very expensive surgery for spinal cord repair. Brian Peters (Deuce n a Quarter) is organizing the music jam\, and there will be a silent auction with some great prizes (including a Hot Air Balloon ride\, original art\, Natalie’s gift certificate)! \nJohn Henry grew up watching his grandfather preach and play his electric Gibson in church and\, as a child\, understood that music is feeling. He played rock and country music. After roughly a decade of focusing on work and a family\, John Henry’s son\, his namesake\, was killed shortly after asking John why he didn’t play music anymore. A year later\, after writing music prodigiously\, he was in a band again – John Henry and the Rainmakers. John has played with various iterations of this band and is a regular in Rainmaker Blues Trio and Mill Street Blues.  He also hosted a weekly blues jam at the Crease Center every Sunday night for many years.  John Henry & the Rainmakers self–titled CD won the Columbus Blues Alliance’s “Best Self- Produced CD” for 2021\, and was a top-five finalist at the International Blues Challenge \nCome join us to help raise funds for John Henry!  \n

SUMMARY:Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys
DESCRIPTION:Over the last three decades\, Big Sandy and his Fly Rite Boys have kept up a constant cycle of traveling back and forth across the lower 48\, then hopping across the pond to Europe and beyond. They bring with them a brand of American music that has earned them an induction into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame\, several national television appearances\, guest spots on The Grand Ole Opry\, and a slew of adoring fans. “I truly love being out on the road\, and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to sing my songs all over the world”\, said Sandy. “But when I’m away from the U.S. for too long\, it’s like I need a recharge… like I need a solid dose of everything Americana. Give me a Chuck Berry song while rolling down the interstate\, or a truck stop conversation with a waitress who once danced with Lefty Frizzell\, and I’m good for another three thousand miles!” \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show. SUMMARY:David Wax Museum Duo
DESCRIPTION:Pioneering folk musicians David Wax and Suz Slezak are the plucky husband-wife duo behind the eclectic\, exuberant “Mexo-Americana” band David Wax Museum. After 14 relentless years touring the country and world\, half of them with their two young children in tow\, COVID’s abrupt disruption in March 2020 created a first jarring\, then welcome creative pause for the Charlottesville\, VA-based band. Before the pandemic\, the ascendant band was enjoying newfound success with their 2019 first label release Line of Light\, subsequent national TV debut on CBS This Morning: Saturday\, and three distinct features on NPR’s World Cafe.  \nOn April 16\, David Wax Museum self-released Euphoric Ouroboric\, one of four records the band made during quarantine and the band’s first foray into the experimental world of D.I.Y. home recording. Producer and longtime collaborator Alec Spiegelman (Okkervil River\, Kevin Morby\, Pokey LaFarge) blended drum machine loops with human performances\, blurring the lines to chart new sonic territory for the band. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available during the show through the QR code at your table.
