SUMMARY:Albert Cummings
DESCRIPTION:Albert Cummings is a singer and guitarist who has played with many of the greatest players of the modern era and received the kind of awards and recognition that few others do. Raised in Massachusetts\, it was a 1987 concert by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble that opened Cummings to a new world of modern blues and inspired him to take up the guitar. It didn’t take long from there for him to find his way to the front of the pack. In fact\, Albert Cummings’ very first album FROM THE HEART (2003) was produced by Double Trouble’s Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon and included the group’s Reese Wynans on keyboards. That had not happened before Cummings’ release. \nFrom that first album\, the burgeoning blues world of the 2000s opened its doors for Albert Cummings. He recorded several albums for Blind Pig Records\, and on 2012’s NO REGRETS the guitarist extended the boundaries outside the blues world to include country and rock influences like he really hadn’t before. It was obvious that the musician did not want to limit himself in any way\, and saw a wider possibility for where his music could go.  The release of his brand new album TEN on Cummings’ own indie label imprint Ivy Music is a full realization of that possibility. \nWritten by Cummings\, the 13 tracks feel like a compelling and extremely emotional summation of what the artist has seen and done. The evocative way the lyrics capture Cummings’ life and his early days in music captures with exquisite detail how someone in his world went on to make such a strong impact on modern blues and beyond. \n Albert Cummings has always prided himself on not putting limits on the music he can create. And it takes that kind of inner belief to keep growing\, no matter when you start or where you go. Which is why this new album has raised the bar to a place where everything feels possible. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available during the show through the QR code at your table in the Music Hall. If you have General Admission tickets and would like to eat before the show we encourage you to make a reservation for our restaurant side by calling us during business hours at (614) 436-2625!

SUMMARY:Friends of John Henry Benefit Blues Show
DESCRIPTION:The Columbus Blues Alliance and Natalie’s present a special benefit concert to support blues musician John Henry\, who was recently injured at his day job and had very expensive surgery for spinal cord repair. Brian Peters (Deuce n a Quarter) is organizing the music jam\, and there will be a silent auction with some great prizes (including a Hot Air Balloon ride\, original art\, Natalie’s gift certificate)! \nJohn Henry grew up watching his grandfather preach and play his electric Gibson in church and\, as a child\, understood that music is feeling. He played rock and country music. After roughly a decade of focusing on work and a family\, John Henry’s son\, his namesake\, was killed shortly after asking John why he didn’t play music anymore. A year later\, after writing music prodigiously\, he was in a band again – John Henry and the Rainmakers. John has played with various iterations of this band and is a regular in Rainmaker Blues Trio and Mill Street Blues.  He also hosted a weekly blues jam at the Crease Center every Sunday night for many years.  John Henry & the Rainmakers self–titled CD won the Columbus Blues Alliance’s “Best Self- Produced CD” for 2021\, and was a top-five finalist at the International Blues Challenge \nCome join us to help raise funds for John Henry!  \n

Clare was awarded this great honour playing solo and along with Anna\, Sheila and Cathal on TG4 as part of the live awards show to an amazing audience including Irish President Michael D. Higgins. On the night\, she was given the award by the great Mairéad Ní Mhaoniagh. TG4 said “This talented young woman has emerged as one of the most exciting young traditional musicians on the scene today”. \nSince then\, the Friels have been joined by Marty Barry on guitar and Cathal Ó Curráin on bouzouki and perform concerts and tours all over and have a busy summer 2022 planned.  \nThe Trad Nua Celtic Series at Natalie’s is hosted by acclaimed Irish musician Randy Clepper.  Rooted in the rich tradition of Irish and Celtic music but also with new influences\, the series presents a variety of traditional acts often juxtaposing old styles with new influences\, local and international artists and featuring traditional instruments.   \n

SUMMARY:David Wax Museum Duo
DESCRIPTION:Pioneering folk musicians David Wax and Suz Slezak are the plucky husband-wife duo behind the eclectic\, exuberant “Mexo-Americana” band David Wax Museum. After 14 relentless years touring the country and world\, half of them with their two young children in tow\, COVID’s abrupt disruption in March 2020 created a first jarring\, then welcome creative pause for the Charlottesville\, VA-based band. Before the pandemic\, the ascendant band was enjoying newfound success with their 2019 first label release Line of Light\, subsequent national TV debut on CBS This Morning: Saturday\, and three distinct features on NPR’s World Cafe.  \nOn April 16\, David Wax Museum self-released Euphoric Ouroboric\, one of four records the band made during quarantine and the band’s first foray into the experimental world of D.I.Y. home recording. Producer and longtime collaborator Alec Spiegelman (Okkervil River\, Kevin Morby\, Pokey LaFarge) blended drum machine loops with human performances\, blurring the lines to chart new sonic territory for the band. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available during the show through the QR code at your table.

SUMMARY:Ferd
DESCRIPTION:Ferd is a man and a band creating a fresh and vibrant interpretation of American music.  \nFerd Moyse the man was raised in the Mississippi Delta. Born in the land of the Blues\, he was exposed to music from the beginning. With the Hackensaw Boys\, Ferd traveled nationally and internationally playing every festival and club stage they could find\, creating an unpretentious version of our folk music.  \nFerd the band is nearly 12 years in the making. Ferd Moyse first met banjo playin Matt Morelock and bass player Chris Stevens while performing with the Hackensaw Boys. The fall of 2021 saw these dots connect and the three began playin together as a band known as “Ferd.” The group began touring in early 2022.  \nStevens plays the big bass\, Morelock on the banjo and Moyse fiddling and singing while stomping on an old Samsonite suitcase like a drum. The sound is driving\, jubilant\, original and fun.  Set to release their first album\, Feelin’ Like the Wind\, in 2022. The album is a musical journey into the toils of joy we all find while stumbling our way to forgiveness. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available during the show through the QR code at your table.  \n

SUMMARY:Griffin House
DESCRIPTION:Griffin House’s new record “Stories for a Rainy Day” is a collection of 9 songs written during the pandemic and recorded in just 3 days and is being described as his most happy and upbeat yet. The opening track “The Mississippi Hippie” was originally written for a feature in Esquire magazine called “Somewhere in Mississippi” and was rediscovered and resurrected for “Stories for a Rainy Day.” The album was recorded by Tim Pannella using a stripped-down trio set up with Jersey based musicians Eric Novod on drums\, Mark Masefield on keys\, and House on guitars and vocals. With minimal production and the band playing together as opposed to overdubbing\, the songs have a space to be more playful\, free and alive. \nA concept record\, with each song telling a story\, an idea inspired from one of House’s favorite childhood albums “Ten Summoner’s Tales\,” the final tale features the hilarious character “Guido” is the only song on the album that was recorded live in concert. \n“If you are looking to be blown away by raw talent\,\nthen look no further than Griffin House.” —American Songwriter \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.

SUMMARY:Iain Matthews
DESCRIPTION:Iain Matthews first gained attention as a founding member and vocalist for the innovative Fairport Convention’s first three albums\, changing the voice of folk music in his country. He moved on to create Matthews’ Southern Comfort\, exploring his interest in American music. They had a No 1 hit in the UK with Joni Mitchell’s ‘Woodstock’. Never one to stand still for very long Iain moved on during the 1970’s with another group\, Plainsong. An ensemble that allowed Iain to blossom as a songwriter and acoustic guitarist – supported by his ex-Fairport mates Sandy Denny and Richard Thompson both in the studio and in Richard’s case on tour. Between his own solo recording and various Plainsong line-ups Iain released ten albums to critical acclaim including another well-known Top Ten US hit with the single ‘Shake It’. \nDuring the early 1980’s Matthews turned towards the business side of music as a rep for Island Records\, but was persuaded by Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin to get back to making music. He returned to the USA for more solo work and Plainsong records. During this period\, he recorded a wonderful version of Peter Gabriel’s ‘Mercy Street”\, contributed to a Phil Ochs’s Tribute album and recorded plus toured with Nanci Griffith. Next\, he released another respected record with the somewhat sarcastic title “Excerpts from Swine Lake”. \nIn 2000\, Matthews settled in the Netherlands and found a busy\, happy life in Europe with more touring of the UK and continent. Yet more well received collaborative recordings were issued including a Tribute album to Sandy Denny. Since then\, Matthews has found one of his most sympathetic musical companions the pianist Egbert Derix. However\, Matthews feels he has finally found an almost perfect musical sweet spot\, playing solo\, in support of his most recent solo album ‘A Baker’s Dozen”. As his 50 years (can this be true?) in the business prove\, things do come around again and again. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available during the show through the QR code at your table.

SUMMARY:Jeff Plankenhorn
DESCRIPTION:Jeff Plankenhorn plays a soulful\, distinctly Austin brand of roots rock that\, over the past several years\, has gained him a devoted national following and a seat among the very best contemporary Americana songwriters. Over five freewheeling solo albums\, Plankenhorn has drawn on a wide range of styles\, combining influences from electric blues\, progressive bluegrass\, sacred steel\, and power pop to create a musical identity all his own. A big part of it is his voice. Plankenhorn grew up in Ohio singing choral music as a boy soprano. The vocal clarity and power he developed in those early years is evident in the soulful baritone he employs now. \nThe biggest contributor to Plankenhorn’s sound is his virtuosic touch on anything with strings – ranging from electric and acoustic\, guitar to dobro and lap steel. His most distinctive sonic paintbrush is the custom electric dobro he invented\, called\, appropriately\, the Plank. If you’ve listened to roots music from Austin in the last couple decades\, you may have heard it – a sharp\, crunchy slide sound derived from the instrument’s combination of a lap steel neck and electric guitar body. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available during the show through the QR code at your table.

SUMMARY:Rebecca Loebe and Jesse Ruben
DESCRIPTION:Over the past decade\, Austin-based troubadour Rebecca Loebe has been steadily building her audience performing in listening rooms and theaters across the US\, Canada\, Japan\, Europe\, and the UK. Her singing voice landed her on national television when she was cast on the first season of NBC’s The Voice. In 2019\, she released her fifth studio album\, a genre-bending record that borrows equally from the worlds of intimate folk\, ear wormy pop\, and no-holds-barred Americana. Give Up Your Ghosts has received the best press of Loebe’s career including praise from Billboard\, Rolling Stone\, and legendary rock critic Dave Marsh\, who said: “Once I put it on I couldn’t take it off.”  \nThe message that Brooklyn singer/songwriter Jesse Ruben has been spreading through his music is simple and direct. I can. You can. We can. When Jesse originally wrote his song “We Can”\, he had just run the NYC Marathon and hoped to inspire people to start running. As it turns out\, his message was meant to be much more universal and resulted in The We Can Project\, which received national news coverage with a live performance by Jesse on The Today Show. Next year\, Jesse will release is EP “A Reply to Violence”\, inspired by a Leonard Bernstein quote: \nThis will be our reply to violence\, that we make music more intensely\, more beautifully\, and more devotedly than ever before. \nWebsite | Facebook \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available during the show through the QR code at your table.  \n
