SUMMARY:The Wood Brothers with Jobi Riccio
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE THIS SHOW IS AT THE SOUTHERN THEATER\, Co-presented by CAPA and Natalie’s Grandview! \nThe Wood Brothers have learned to trust their hearts. For the better part of two decades\, they’ve cemented their reputation as freethinking songwriters\, road warriors\, and community builders\, creating a catalog of diverse music and a loyal audience who’ve grown alongside them through the years. That evolution continues with Heart is the Hero\, the band’s eighth studio album. Recorded analog to 16-track tape\, this latest effort finds its three creators embracing the chemistry of their acclaimed live shows by capturing their performances in real-time direct from the studio floor with nary a computer in sight. An acoustic-driven album that electrifies\, Heart is the Hero is stocked with songs that target not only the heart\, but the head and hips\, too. \n“We love records that come from the era of less tracks and more care\,” explains co-founder Oliver Wood. “When you use a computer during the tracking process\, you have an infinite number of tracks at your disposal\, which implies that nothing is permanent\, and everything can be fixed. Tape gives you limitations that force you to be creative and intentional. You don’t look at the music on a screen; you listen to it\, and you learn to focus on the feeling of the performance.” \nThroughout Heart Is The Hero\, those performances are matched by the visceral storytelling and songwriting chops that have turned The Wood Brothers into Grammy-nominated leaders of American roots music\, even as their music reaches far beyond the genre’s borders. The strippeddown swagger of “Pilgrim” underscores Oliver’s reminder to slow down and experience each moment as an interactive observer\, rather than a passive tourist. A similar theme anchors “Between the Beats\,” where Oliver draws upon a meditation technique — maintaining one’s focus on the space between heartbeats — to reach a new level of presence. The gentle sway of country soul gem “Rollin’ On\,” featuring horns by Matt Glassmeyer and Roy Agee\, expounds on the timehonored tradition of love as the guiding light through darkness\, while “Mean Man World” finds Chris Wood singing about his responsibilities as a father whose young daughter is poised to inherit an uncertain future. “Line Those Pockets” is a universal call for mercy and understanding over materialism. “Everybody’s just trying to be happy\, so put your money away; line those pockets with grace\,” the band sings in three-part harmony during the song’s chorus\, which emphasizes compassion over cash as the world’s true currency. Together\, these songs offer a snapshot of a spirited\, independent-minded group at the peak of its powers\, always pushing forward and seeking to evolve beyond what’s come before. \n“There’s still acoustic guitar\, upright bass\, and percussion on this album — things people use all the time — but we’re always thinking\, ‘How can we make this sound like us\, but not like something we’ve already done?'” Oliver says. “Sometimes\, the only way to do that is to get weird.” \nThat sense of exploration pumps its way through Heart is the Hero like lifeblood. Arriving on the heels of 2019’s Live at The Fillmore\, 2020’s Kingdom In My Mind\, and Oliver Wood’s solo album Always Smilin‘ — all of which were released on Honey Jar Records\, the band’s independent label — Heart is the Hero is bold\, bright\, and singularly creative\, a fully realized collective effort ultimately greater than the sum of its parts. Perhaps that’s to be expected from a group whose willingness to experiment has earned acclaim from Rolling Stone and NPR\, as well as an annual touring schedule of sold-out music halls and theaters on both sides of the Atlantic. Ask The Wood Brothers\, though\, and they’ll tell you to expect the unexpected. \n“We are never satisfied if we are not searching for new musical recipes\,” says Jano Rix\, nodding to the uncharted territory that Heart is the Hero covers. Chris Wood agrees\, adding\, “We are one of those bands that isn’t easily categorized. We know what our strengths are\, but we can’t help but push the envelope\, as well. It’s too much fun.”

SUMMARY:Colin Gawel CG2 with Dave Masica
DESCRIPTION:About Colin Gawel… \n“I wrote my first song on the back of a paper route book in 6th grade.”\n– Colin Gawel \nSoon after\, while seeing a Cheap Trick concert\, I convinced my pal Joe Oestreich that we should start a band and get signed to Epic Records. Just like Cheap Trick did. Watershed was born at that moment of the bus ride home from the show. Once we learned how to play\, we did get signed to Epic Records and do damn near every single thing a rock n roll band can do. Except have a hit song. It’s quite a tale. \nIn fact\, you can read all about it in the best selling memoir “Hitless Wonder- A Life in Minor League Rock n Roll” which was released in 2012 and National Public Radio called it one of the two best books of the summer. It rose to #1 on the Amazon music book charts. (!) As of 2022\, Watershed is still recording and playing shows. \nIn the meantime\, I also record and perform as a solo artist. Superior- The Best of Colin Gawel is 17 seventeen song compilation of that work. And in 2018 I released the League Bowlers Some Balls Deluxe. The Bowlers play bottom shelf versions of top shelf rock n roll\, both originals and tasty bar room versions of the classics. (Cheap Trick\, CCR\, Petty\, Bruce\, Neil Young and so on and so forth.. ) \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.

SUMMARY:Norman Nardini and the Switchblades with Willie Phoenix and the Soul Underground
DESCRIPTION:Norman Nardini and the Switchblades from Pittsburgh and Willie Phoenix and the Soul Underground. Two kings of rock n roll together one special night – presented by Crazy Mama’s Concerts and WCBE \nAs bass player for the 1970’s Pittsburgh rock n’ roll band\, Diamond Reo\, Norman Nardini got his career started. After a very brief stay at Berklee School Of Music and more than a few special moments….while still in high school he rented his Hammond B-3 organ and roadied for Billy Preston and Sly and the Family Stone when they came to town…..was hired to play guitar and keys in fake versions of The Sonics and The Cherry People…………backed up Little Anthony and the Imperials\, The Detroit Emeralds\, and The Manhattans in pickup bands…..played guitar behind Big Mama Thorton and George Harmonica Smith at The Jazz Workshop in Boston Mass. At Fox studio he had the opportunity to play on recordings by Jimmy Beaumont and the Skyliners\, Lou Christy\, Terry Bradshaw……Nardini played bass on “The Pennsylvania Polka” Steeler fight song. After doing an arrangement of “Dancing In The Street” that got picked up by RCA he did an arrangement of Marvin Gaye’s “Ain’t That Peculiar” that brought an album deal with Big Tree Records that got Diamond Reo started. With a single on the charts The Diamonds appeared on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand and did shows with Aerosmith\, Rush\, Ted Nugent\, Kansas\, Canned Heat\, Blue Oyster Cult……they opened up for Kiss at Cobo Hall in Detroit the night they recorded Kiss Alive. Dirty Diamonds\, they’re second release was on the Buddah label and was produced by Adrian Barber who had done Aerosmith’s first LP……although it didn’t do so well at the time\, Dirty Diamonds is currently being re-released on Rock Candy Records and is considered to be a classic piece of work……Nardini produced Ruff Cuts The Diamonds third and final LP. Norman Nardini and the Tigers started tearin’ up rock n’ roll shows in 1979 opening shows for bands like The Romantics\, Joan Jett\, and Beaver Brown. In the fall of 1980 The Tigers played Asbury Park’s Fast Lane and opened the show for The Rest\, one of Jon Bon Jovi’s early bands\, he and Jon remain friends to this day. Jon had Nardini open his 2011 performance at Pittsburgh’s Consol Energy Center. Recorded at Cleveland’s legendary Agora Nightclub\, Eat n’ Alive\, which received a 4 star review from Rolling Stone Magazine was released in ’81 and kept The Tigers on the road constantly. CBS released Norman Nardini and the Tigers in ’83\, ole buddy Jon Bon sang BG vocals. With the Tigers broken up\, Nardini did one more release with CBS\, Love Dog\, which featured Rick Derringer\, Dr John\, and Paul Shaffer and hit in ’86 and was followed by a tour with The Radiators. A tour of Germany as opening act for The Blues Brothers came about because “Smoke Two Joints”\, the single off the Circumstantial LP\, This Ole Train was hitting the airways just after the Berlin wall came down and folks were exercising their freedom to rock and smoke. Two more LP’s on Circumstantial followed\, 1993’s Breakdown In Paradise and 95’s It’s Alive. \nWhether he’s playing haunting blues\, straight forward rock\, garage band noise or psychedelic fusion – Willie Phoenix delivers. Willie’s career has spanned decades – and so has his passion – never stopping\, never failing to deliver jaw-dropping performances with an undeniable edge. \nBorn in Camden Alabama\, Willie says he entered the world “wrapped in a burning southern flag” – referencing his love for the blues. Growing up\, he listened to all of the greats. They were all there on the 78/45 rpm records played on his family’s Magnavox record player: Muddy Waters\, Lightening Hopkins\, Howling Wolf\, John Lee Hooker and country greats Hank Williams\, Buck Owens and Jerry Reed. Willie remembers thinking the guitars\, harmonicas and voices possessed the same echoing\, lonely sound as the midnight trains that rumbled past his Marion\, Ohio home. It was there\, in Marion\, where he grew up\, went to school and cut his teeth on early British invasion blues and rock n’ roll. \nWillie has never looked back. He learned to play the blues from his father\, bluesman Willie James Creagh Sr. who played with big names like Muddy Waters and Sonny Boy Williamson II (Willie’s godfather). Willie says\, “I had a certain knack for writing songs. I started playing guitar\, grabbed a few of my mates\, formed a band and made a lot of wonderful noise.” Willie has worked clubs and concert halls from Toronto Canada straight to the west coast neon lights of Hollywood. He’s performed with many greats\, including Muddy Waters\, BB King\, rock n’ roll’s Ramones and The Talking Heads – to name only a few. \nA prolific songwriter\, Willie has released more albums than can be mentioned – but most recently he’s released Magic in the Dark (2022)\, four albums in 2021 (Heavy Bubblegum\, 3 Chords Maybe 4\, Poster Noise\, Bomb Shelter 13). Other recent works include This Ain’t 1968 (2020)\, Backstage Rain (2019)\, Garage Blues Band (2017)\, Blues My Soul (2016) and Captain Psychedelic (2015)\, all released through 1978 Records. \nThough he’s a very humble guy\, if you’re lucky you might get Willie to tell you about how the City of Columbus honored “the legendary rock god Willie Phoenix” by renaming 16th and High Street “Willie Phoenix Way” (October\, 2020) or about being inducted into the 2022 Columbus Blues Alliance Hall of Fame (October 2022). \nWhen not on the road\, Willie’s usually cutting sides at Eastman Studios. You can probably find Willie and his band (Steven Day Carter on drums and Chuck Birchfield on bass) performing into the wee hours of the morning somewhere in town or at Eldorado’s – their favorite underground juke joint in the Graceland district of Columbus. \nWillie once told a friend\, “Rock n’ roll has saved me from the blues of silence.” Long live rock n’ roll! \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show. \n

SUMMARY:Igor & the red elvises
DESCRIPTION:Igor Yuzov was born in Germany\, raised in Ukraine and studied in Russia. He grew up in the former Soviet Union\, where folk music was the norm and rock’n’roll was illegal. A rebellious streak\, led him to seek out the forbidden music. As soon as it became possible\, Igor left Russia for America with his “Folk’n’Roll” band Limpopo\, and was personally greeted by Ronald Reagan. In 1993\, Limpopo won Ed McMahon’s Star Search and their popularity began to blossom. In 1995\, Igor dreamed that Elvis Presley came to him and told him to start playing rock’n’roll. Igor and his Russian friends became Red Elvises and gave street performances on Santa Monica’s 3rd Street Promenade. As their crowds grew larger\, the City of Santa Monica ordered them to discontinue their street performances. Evolving over the years\, Igor’s music has been labeled “Siberian Surf Rock” which contains humorous lyrics and grooves that forces his audience to dance. Over the past 20 years\, Red Elvises have constantly toured all over the world with occasional breaks to record new music and to participate in film and television projects. \nAs an independent band\, Red Elvises have produced 12 studio albums\, two live albums\, a live concert DVD\, and a Greatest Hits compilation. Some of their most notable film contributions include music and or performances in “Six String Samurai”\, “Mail Order Bride”\, “Armageddon”\, “Skippy”\, “Melrose Place”\, “Fastlane”\, “Penn and Teller’s Sin City Extravaganza”\, “VH-1 Behind the Music”\, and “MTV”. Red Elvises have performed for large festivals\, private parties\, and played on massive stages such as 2005’s Live 8 Benefit Concert. No matter where they perform\, Igor & Red Elvises always bring the party with them. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.

SUMMARY:Annual Beatles vs. Stones Benefit Bash for Easterseals Central & Southeast Ohio
DESCRIPTION:We are proud to announce the return of the Beatles Vs. Stones Benefit Bash. All proceeds from the show go to Easterseals of\nCentral & Southeast Ohio. Four bands\, 2 playing The Beatles\, 2 playing The Stones battle back and forth for supremacy! \n\nObetz R Off:\nObetz R Off\, the classic rock cover band hailing from the industrial town of Obetz\, Ohio\, features 5 veterans of the local rock scene. They bring a unique twist to timeless hits with a flavor as tasty as a basket of zucchinis from their hometown. Their rock n roll fortress is built on a foundation of timeless hits\, blending the roots of rock with a zesty infusion that sets them apart. Individually seasoned by their musical journeys\, Obetz R Off’s members bring a rich history\, having once rocked stages with bands like The Slang\, Dutch Van Dyme\, and Pay the Toll. \n \nScubaSteve & The Rumrunners:\nScubaSteve & The RumRunners\, distilled through multiple band names and lineup changes\, and flavored through the process of playing dozens of charity events throughout the years have emerged like a finely aged spirit to become the premier Punk Rock Party Cover band of Columbus Ohio. \n \n\n\nBungalow Bills: \nGuitarist Josh Tully has been playing and writing music in the Columbus scene since the late 80s in bands such as Joint Project\, The Shrunken Heads\, Poophouse Reilly\, Strange Grain\, and various other projects. Currently he plays with The Apple Bottom Gang\, The Shazzbots\, and the duo Semi Strange. He’s also been called Truck Noristasio in certain circles but that’s another story. \n \nDrummer Rob Mottice played his first Columbus gig in 1987. Along with assisting various studio projects with local songwriters\, he plays in the Apple Bottom Gang\, The Shazzbots\, Silent Bell\, and The Mason Jars. He recently started playing with Myron Hart\, longtime guitar tech and sideman for Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady of Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna. A mostly sedimentary formation of guys formerly of bands such as Yesterday Kids\, The Secret Sounds of the NSA\, among others\, now just being dudes and playing musical instruments because we get to choose what to do some of the time. \n \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show. If you would like to eat before the show\, we encourage you to make a dinner reservation on Resy for our kitchen side of the venue.

Plus hear some great music commentary from Brian’s long and successful career in the alternative radio industry. \nProceeds from ticket sales go directly to the youth mentoring programs of TVML. \nPrizes for the winners… although we’re all winners when we’re playing for the kids. \nTriVillage Mentor League: \nFounded in 1994 to offer more youth support locally\, TriVillage Mentor League (TVML) is an IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving the central Ohio communities of Grandview Heights\, Marble Cliff\, and Upper Arlington. \nSince its inception\, TVML has done one thing\, and that is mentoring. Over the years we have evolved and shifted how our mentoring looks (moving from a partnership with Big Brother/Big Sister to using local high school students to mentor) but reaching out to children has remained steadfast in our vision. TVML is well-respected both by Upper Arlington and Grandview Heights School Districts\, and by families within the communities. Our unwavering commitment to our local communities to support our youth is paramount to all we stand for at TVML. \nTVML is invested in the communities we serve\, which is why we also offer scholarships to deserving senior mentors. SUMMARY:Scott H. Biram + Adrian + Meredith
DESCRIPTION:Scott H. Biram\, a proud Texan raised on the outskirts of Austin\, is a maverick in the tradition of Doug Sahm\, Roky Erickson (13th Floor Elevators) and Gibby Haines (Butthole Surfers). Shortly after releasing his third record (2003’s Lo-Fi Mojo)\, the 28-year-old’s life was nearly cut short after a near-fatal head-on collision with a big rig semi. He was still bedridden when he made his Rehabilitation Blues EP\, the predecessor to his 2005 debut for Bloodshot Records\, The Dirty Old One Man Band. \nFlash forward to 2022. After almost thirty years of tirelessly writing\, recording and touring the front and backroads of America as a solo bluesman\, collecting a wide array of critical accolades\, Biram found himself suddenly stopped cold by the pandemic. Once again\, unwilling to allow outsized forces slow him down\, he took advantage of the shutdown to write\, record and produce nine new songs and two traditional covers for his new album\, The One & Only Scott H. Biram\, his 13th overall and 9th for Bloodshot Records. \n“I’m constantly trying to go back to the junky\, lo-fi sounds of my early records\,” says Biram. “But it’s harder to do now. The more you learn about production\, the harder it is to convey that genuine unproduced feeling. I have to compromise between overproduced and lo-fi\, so it sounds pro\, but still keeps that grittiness.” \n“I tend to be all over the place. My brain’s restless. If something interests me\, I’ll write a song about it. I have a kinda rootsy\, blue collar approach with blues\, country and folk\, but I always throw in \nsome of my heavier influences from metal and hard rock. I consider myself a singer and guitarist\, above everything else.” \nThe music on The One and Only Scott H. Biram has the down home\, in-your-face feel that Biram is noted for. “No Man’s Land” opens with a blues turnaround played on a twanging electric guitar\, backed by a stomping bass and drum backbeat. Biram growls out a lyric\, describing the hazards of growing up poor in a small Texas town\, breathing the fumes from oil wells and brush fires. “I was remembering a bumper sticker I saw as a kid that said\, ‘Oil Field Trash and Proud of It!’” \n“My music has a lot of aggression to it. I express myself without holding back. If you mixed Muddy Waters\, Bill Monroe\, Jerry Reed\, and Black Flag\, you’d have a good idea of my sound. It’s punk\, blues\, country\, metal\, bluegrass and dirty.” \n“Inside a Bar” captures the feel of an empty saloon on a slow Monday night. It’s a straight-forward country blues\, with an understated vocal\, intensified by an impressive solo\, that mimics the tones of a pedal steel guitar. “I was going for the sound of loneliness and alcoholism colliding.” \nOther notable tracks include “Sinner’s Dinner\,” a rootsy rock tune that gives us Biram’s take on the riot of January 6; “Dig a Hole/Big Liar\,” a Chicago blues track with a shredding electric guitar solo that zooms from speaker to speaker; a down and dirty southern gospel style take on Leadbelly’s “Easy Rider\,” with a funky rhythm and background whoops and hollers that suggest the reactions of a packed Baptist tent revival\, and an acoustic take on “Death Has No Mercy\,” the blues standard made popular by the Rev. Gary Davis. ; \nThe most unexpected sound is “InterTransmissions\,” a short jarring burst of noise\, feedback and sound effects. “I loved the Butthole \nSurfers and a lot of psychedelic music when I was comin’ up\,” Biram says. “I wanted to lean into that and add some color to the album. I don’t think I’ll ever actually do it on stage\, unless I’m just pushing a button on a sampler. Excessive loops and samples are not really my go-to style.” \nThe songs on the album deal with mortality\, romance\, religion\, drinking and memories of the past\, but it’s difficult to identify an overarching theme. “I studied art in college\, so I think of my albums as collages. I grew up playing in punk\, metal\, blues\, country and bluegrass bands\, so I throw in a bunch of stuff to see what resonates. I’ll follow a heavy blues tune with a tender love song\, just the way life is\, no one theme. I’m not tryna write a rock opera. Most of the time\, I’m just getting’ shit off my chest.” \nBiram’s albums and EPs are a separate entity from the sound he gets on stage. “I have a wall of speakers behind me\, a big subwoofer\, old beat up hollow-body guitars\, harmonicas\, and an amplified stomp board to provide a heavy back beat. I sing in several different kinds of voices and my solid sound really fills the room. I don’t use loops but\, in the studio\, I sometimes overdub bass\, guitar\, drums\, tambourine and percussion. Other times\, I dumb it down and just do what I do on stage.” \nBiram grew up in San Marcos\, Texas. “My dad played sax a little bit around the house. My uncles played guitar together in a band. There were always guitars and pianos around. I messed around with ‘em\, but didn’t get serious about playing and songwriting until high school. I sang and wrote lyrics in a punk-metal band. We played in local bars for free beer\, and any attention we could get from the local chicks. That was cool enough for us back then. \n“My dad turned me on to Doc Watson and Leadbelly early on. I inherited my great-grandfather’s banjo when I was 19\, and I started \ndoing solo acoustic shows on the side. All that while I was still rockin’ out in the punk band. Those acoustic shows morphed into a bluegrass band\, but I still did solo stuff on the side\, stomping my foot on the floor and developing a more aggressive guitar approach. Sometime around 2000\, I realized I could consolidate the folk roots with my heavier stuff and offer something that was truly my own. The Scott H. Biram One Man Band was born.” \n“I never liked being called a singer/songwriter\,” says Biram\, “but those are some of my best qualities. I don’t want people to think I’m a ‘fool on a stool\,’ which is what I imagine comes into people’s heads when they hear ‘singer/songwriter.’ I try to steer clear of that\, when I can.” \nWith The One & Only Scott H. Biram\, the singer once again proves himself to be an unstoppable force\, refusing to bow in the face of outside challenges and demonstrating a unique ability to live up to the traditions of rough-hewn\, individualistic Texas-born music. He looks forward to returning to tour the highways and byways of America throughout 2024. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show. \n

SUMMARY:Albert Cummings
DESCRIPTION:Albert Cummings is the complete package. He’s not just the guitar player or the bluesman or the singer or the songwriter. Though he is a master of all of that\, he is so much more. He is the complete package\, with an approach to blues and rock that has been described as soulful and explosive. \nThe Massachusetts native learned the necessary three chords on the guitar from his father but switched to playing banjo at 12 when he became a fan of bluegrass. In his late teens\, he heard the early recordings of Stevie Ray Vaughan and when he saw Vaughan perform\, he returned to the guitar\, determined to master it. \nA master builder\, Cummings did not make his first public performance on the guitar until he was 27. Soon he was on the Northeast blues circuit with his band\, Swamp Yankee. In 1998\, he walked into a Northeast Blues Society open jam and won the right to compete in the Blues Foundation’s 1999 International Blues Challenge. In 2000\, his debut recording\, The Long Way\, was released to rave reviews\, with Bluesprint magazine calling it “a barrage of guitar pyrotechnics that call to mind a grand mix of the styles of past masters like Albert King\, Freddie King\, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimmie Hendrix.” \nHis success opened doors and he was able to work with Double Trouble\, the late Vaughan’s rhythm section. Bassist Tommy Shannon and drummer Chris Layton were so taken with Cumming’s fire and passion that they produced his first solo recording\, From the Heart. They performed on it\, as well\, marking the first recording either had done since Vaughan’s tragic death. Cummings\, who originally picked up the guitar when he heard Stevie Ray Vaughan\, had come full circle. \nThe guitar player caught the attention of Blind Pig Records\, which produced for Muddy Waters\, Jimmy Vivino and Elvin Bishop. His label debut\, True to Yourself\, established him as a singer and songwriter of note\, and a great guitar player. Tours and shows with B.B. King\, Johnny Winter and Buddy Guy brought him to a larger audience and his 2006 album\, Working Man\, was said by Billboard to be “the calling card of a star who has arrived.” \nGuitar Edge magazine summed up Cummings’ reach this way: “The blues is best served up live\, with an enthusiastic audience and a killin’ band and that’s exactly what guitarist Albert Cummings does …Cummings effortlessly shifts from chimney subdued stylings to raucous roadhouse raunch to soaring yet stinging lead lines\, driving his audience to frenzy in all the right places.” \n“Strong” is latest album just released in February 2024\, produced by Grammy award producer Tom Hambridge is already number 1 on the Billboard Blues Chart. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show. \n

SUMMARY:Ian Sweet
DESCRIPTION:SUCKER\, Jillian Medford’s fourth album as IAN SWEET\, is a massive leap forward for the songwriter and pop auteur. Perfectly merging her recently showcased pop sensibilities with the widescreen indie rock that she first made her name on\, SUCKER is both sumptuous and fully realized\, as Medford digs her hands into tough questions about looking ahead and personal growth. Her musical voice has only become more unique amidst an ever-growing field\, and SUCKER is proof positive that even with a considerable discography in her arsenal\, Medford is just getting started. \nSUCKER follows Medford’s 2021 breakthrough and Polyvinyl debut Show Me How You Disappear\, which chronicled her time spent in an intensive outpatient program that included six hours of group therapy a day. “Show Me How You Disappear was written during a really difficult period of my life after reckoning with a mental health crisis\,” she explains. “I survived that very moment in my life through writing that record\, and the extreme urgency to heal is reflected in the songwriting. With SUCKER\, I felt more capable to take my time and experiment without being totally afraid of the outcome. It wasn’t life or death—it was just life\, and I was lucky to be living it.” \nWork on the new album started in the fall of 2022; feeling newly untethered in the wake of a “COVID relationship” that had recently come to pass\, Medford took a cross-country road trip from her L.A. home to an artist residency at The Outlier Inn – a New York Catskills based recording studio where she took up residence to demo and produce SUCKER in full. “I was feeling very stuck in L.A. and was trying to get comfortable with spending more time alone again\,” she recalls about her hermetic confines\, which included 24-hour studio access to create in an unfettered fashion. “I went there not knowing exactly what I wanted to do or make\, but I knew I wanted to explore and get out of my comfort zone. I forced myself to make things on the spot\, in the moment and not overthink it too much.” \nFeeling inspired\, Medford brought her demos to life with co-producers Alex Craig (Binki\, Claud) and Strange Ranger’s Isaac Eiger along with mixing engineer Al Carlson (St. Vincent\, Jessica Pratt)\, all of whom helped shape SUCKER into its current form—a record that reconciles Medford’s beginnings with where she’s landed at this current moment. “I revisited the reasons why I started playing music to begin with\,” she explains. “I wanted to get more personal and showcase a more confident side musically and lyrically. I’ve always been very doubtful about my own work and don’t often share it with a lot of people. But there was something about this record where I felt very secure with what I was writing about and wanted everyone to hear.” \nThe result: ten songs that count as the strongest Medford’s ever put to tape\, bringing to mind the guitar heroics of indie rock legends Broken Social Scene\, the searing hooks of ‘90s alternative rock\, Leslie Feist’s dusky songwriting\, and shoegaze’s warmth. The quietly explosive title track is practically a miniature epic\, with oceanic guitars rippling behind Medford’s tactile vocals\, while first single “Your Spit” swerves and sways with a distinctly pop gait that packs a punch. \n“Sometimes I get imposter syndrome when I write poppier music\, because of who people assume I actually am as a musician\, and where they’d like me to fit in in the ‘indie’ space.” she says while talking about the song’s sound as well as navigating the expectations that come with being boxed in genre-wise. “I think the indie rock world really feeds off trauma. If you’re not going through something terrible\, people are like\, ‘What’s the story?’ That’s fucked me up a bit\, but it’s a really beautiful thing when you’re feeling healthy and it shows in your music\, too — and I don’t want to be forced into any narrative.” \nIndeed\, SUCKER showcases Medford’s ability to push herself into previously unexplored territory: The arpeggiated and dusky beauty of “Emergency Contact” belies the songs’ biting sarcasm\, as Medford reflects on codependency and a recent breakup that forced her to recognize destructive patterns she willingly—and sometimes\, purposefully—falls into in spite of her best interests. “There’s some sneering energy to it\, as I’m trying to convince myself that I didn’t really want what I had lost anyway\,” she says. Then there’s the surging and anthemic “Smoking Again\,” which Medford describes with a laugh as “pretty dramatic” before breaking down the song’s all-too-relatable themes: “I often put myself in situations that I know won’t be beneficial to me\, just to get a rise out of myself. Almost like setting up obstacles just to see if I could overcome them.” \nThe disorienting sensation of falling in love and staying in love appears throughout SUCKER\, but this isn’t a break up album so much as it is a reclamation album. “I’ve put a lot of pressure on myself over the years\, and with this record I think the intention was to let go and put more trust in myself\,” Medford states while discussing how this splendid album represents where she’s at as an artist—and SUCKER feels like the culmination of her personal and professional accomplishments so far\, as well as the first step in a bold and exciting new future for IAN SWEET as a whole. \nFood & Bar: Our full bar menu will be available for purchase. Our kitchen will be closed. \n

SUMMARY:Wonder Women of Country with Kelly Willis\, Brennen Leigh and Melissa Carper - SOLD OUT!
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Zeppelin Productions – Wonder Women of Country: \n“Together\, the three played off each other perfectly\, while each proving exceptional in their own right.” –– Austin Chronicle \nWhen Kelly Willis\, Melissa Carper and Brennen Leigh – three accomplished singer-songwriters who have forged their own unique lanes in country music – joined forces as a power trio\, there was no more appropriate moniker than Wonder Women of Country. \nAt the end of 2021\, after serendipitously sharing bills separately several times\, Willis approached Leigh and Carper about teaming up and playing some shows together. Wanting more than your standard songwriter-in-the-round arrangement\, the three learned each other’s songs to create a more integrated\, band approach. Those first few shows together were so much fun and so well-received that they decided to continue. \nWonder Women of Country have discovered that\, together\, their own individual superpowers come alive. (One of their superpowers is being able to find hidden treasures in any thrift or vintage store.) With Leigh playing lead guitar and mandolin\, Carper on upright bass\, and Willis playing rhythm guitar\, they support each other’s distinctive original material with beautiful three-part harmonies. \n“At every show\, folks were asking if we had records together\,” says Willis. “After months and months of that\, we finally found a chance to go make one.” \nTheir forthcoming\, six-song EP\, Wonder Women of Country: Willis\, Carper\, Leigh\, was recorded at Bismeaux on the Hill in Austin\, TX in December of 2023. It features two songs by each artist\, including a couple of Carper/Leigh co-writes\, and one reimagined John Prine tune. Each track captures the magic these three create night after night on the road. Wonder Women of Country are the super heroes we’ve all been waiting for. \nBRENNEN LEIGH – “Brennen will carry the torch for REAL American music for her generation\, and she’s the best one to do it in my opinion\,” says Ray Benson. Brennen’s upcoming release “Obsessed With The West” is set to release May 6th featuring Asleep at the Wheel. The album features 12 original songs that Brennen says\, “is my love note to Western Swing; To the rich culture it comes from\, as I see it.” \nKELLY WILLIS – “There’s no point in being nostalgic for the generic delineations of the past. We are in the present. That’s where Kelly Willis lives\, and it’s there that she sings\, as keenly and movingly as any singer in the country or pop or rock present\,” says No Depression. \nMELISSA CARPER – “Melissa is one of the greatest classic golden era country singers and composers of this generation\,” says Saving Country Music. Melissa’s most recent release “Daddy’s Country Gold” is just that\, 12 glittering Carper originals from the country\, western swing and jazz variety. Melissa has a new album in the works for release in the fall 2022. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.

SUMMARY:Sue Foley Trio
DESCRIPTION:Pinky’s Blues\, is named after Sue Foley’s pink paisley Fender Telecaster electric guitar that has been such a major part of Foley’s life for all these years. Part of that is the total devotion Sue Foley has to the guitar\, and in particular to the one she calls “Pinky” that has been with her for decades and continues to play on this album. Foley feels it’s almost a living extension of who she is and helps guide her through the rambunctiously deep renditions of everything she performs. Sue Foley is a multi award winning musician\, and one of the finest blues and roots artists working today. Foley spent her early childhood in Canada\, mesmerized by her father’s guitar and started her professional career at sixteen. By twenty-one\, she was living in Austin\, TX and recording for Antone’s. Foley has toured steadily with her band\, toting her signature pink paisley Fender Telecaster—working and sharing the stage with greats such as B.B. King\, Buddy Guy\, Jimmie Vaughan and Billy F Gibbons. Foley is the only female member of the famed “Jungle Show” which features Gibbons\, Vaughan\, B3 virtuoso Mike Flanigin and Chris ‘Whipper’ Layton (formerly of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble). \nHer latest album\, Pinky’s Blues is a raw\, electric guitar driven romp through the backroads of Texas\, with Foley’s signature Telecaster\, “Pinky” at the wheel. Pinky’s Blues is a guitar driven collection of 12 songs\, both original and some of Sue’s favorite covers\, that demonstrate not only that Sue is one of the world’s greatest Blues guitarists\, but that the sheer joy of playing can be felt through the recording in an emotional thrill for the listener. Pinky’s Blues was the #1 album in The Roots Music Report’s Top Blues Rock Album Chart for the Year of 2021\, the #1 album on the NACC Blues chart for over 4 weeks and debuted at #4 on the Billboard Blues Albums chart. In 2020\, she won “Traditional Blues Female” at the International Blues Music Awards in Memphis. She’s also a Juno Award winner\, holds the record for the most Maple Blues Awards including “Best Guitar Player”\, and has earned three Trophées de Blues de France. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show. \n

SUMMARY:Suzzy Roche and Lucy Wainwright Roche
DESCRIPTION:Suzzy Roche & Lucy Wainwright Roche \nSuzzy and Lucy released their last recording I Can Still Hear You in the fall of 2020. The album was largely recorded in the darkest hours of the Covid shutdown in the spring of 2020 in NYC. After starting the recording in Nashville\, the mother/daughter team went back to New York City just as the city closed up. They set up studios in their bedrooms: Lucy in Brooklyn\, Suzzy in Manhattan\, and finished the record. Hailed as “one of the year’s best” by Americana Highways\, the new album has been met with high praise. Suzzy and Lucy have recorded two albums previously\, Fairytale & Myth (Independent Music Award winner) and Mud & Apples (also nominated for IMA). \nThose familiar with Lucy Wainwright Roche are aware of her bell tone voice\, her unshakable melodies\, and her knack for wise\, wry lyrics. It’s no surprise that Wainwright Roche is the daughter of Suzzy Roche (The Roches) and Loudon Wainwright III\, half sibling to Rufus and Martha Wainwright. Lucy has carved out her own career as a touring singer/songwriter and recording artist\, with five critically acclaimed solo recordings released on her own label: Eight Songs\, Eight More\, Lucy\, There’s a Last Time for Everything and her most recent Little Beast (Winner of the Independent Music Award for Best Singer/Songwriter.) Other recordings include a collaboration with her sister Martha Wainwright on Songs In the Dark\, a collection of lullabies. For over a decade\, as a solo act\, armed with a guitar\, a deadpan sense of humor\, insightful songs\, and a voice that makes tough guys cry\, she’s built a solid following across the US and Europe. As an opening act she has often appeared with such luminaries as The Indigo Girls\, Mary Chapin Carpenter\, Neko Case\, and her brother\, Rufus\, and she’s one of a few who can step out alone in front of a thousand strangers and play an entire set to a rapt audience. \nSuzzy Roche is a singer/songwriter/performer/author and founding member of the singing group The Roches. She has recorded over eighteen albums\, written music for TV and Film\, and toured extensively for forty years across the U.S. and Europe. She has performed with the experimental theater troupe\, The Wooster Group\, for over twenty years. Her children’s book Want To Be In A Band (Random House) was published in February 2013. Wayward Saints (Hyperion/Voice) is her first novel and was a selection of the Spring 2012 B&N Discover Great New Writers Program. Her most recent novel The Town Crazy was published in August of 2020. www.suzzyroche.com \nTHE CHICAGO TRIBUNE’s review of Suzzy Roche and Lucy Wainwright Roche’s performance at The Space in Evanston Illinois said\, “Their voices intertwined in gorgeous union…mother and daughter had the room in the palms of their talented hands. This was a glittering gem of a show.” \n“Suzzy Roche and Lucy Wainwright Roche’s I Can Still Hear you will be one of the year’s best”-Americana Highways \n“I Can Still Hear You is an album for our times. Every song shimmers with perfection\, even as it reminds us of the ragged ways that we love and the misery and loss of the days in which we find ourselves.” – Folk Alley \n“This mother-daughter duo use their their vocals to repudiate despair\, to transcend the mere mortal. These are vocals that take you to the other side of the mountain\, where renewal reigns supreme.” – No Depression \n“One of the best albums of October 2020. the album has a hushed\, muted melancholy about it: the goofy joy of classic Roches may be missing\, but the family vocal blend and wry intelligence are\, thankfully\, being passed to the next generation”— Rolling Stone \n“Suzzy Roche and her daughter Lucy Wainwright Roche have recorded an album of immense depth and beauty created amidst a year of challenges and uncertainty. \nThe mix of originals\, poignant covers and even a traditional Irish song (“Factory Girl”) are magnificent – Rock ‘N’ Roll Truth \n“Suzzy and Lucy took their pain\, that lonesome feeling and from it created a magical record. Easily one of the best albums of the year and can stand with those legendary Roches records from the day. You owe it to yourself to experience it.” -INK19 UK \n“On “I Can Still Hear You\,” Suzzy Roche and her daughter\, Lucy Wainwright Roche\, beautifully blend their warm voices and create a delightful musical counterpoint to the dissonance of 2020. “Love is a thing that does rule every nation\,” goes one lyric. Let’s hear it for harmony” – Associated Press \n“Their finest hour yet\, it’s a musically gentle listening experience\, suffused with both love and sadness and\, as the title implies\, a reminder that while we may be apart our voices are not silenced.” – Folk Radio UK \n“A welcome collaboration from two venerated singer-songwriters. It also serves as a testament to the human spirit in a time of darkness.” – PopMatters \n“Amy Ray and Emily Saliers of The Indigo Girls guest on this beautiful set of powerful contemporary folk from two generations of one of music’s most prolific and beloved extended families. –The Second Disc \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show. \n
