SUMMARY:Dave Buker and the Historians - Heirlooms Album Release
DESCRIPTION:Dave Buker and the Historians \nBased in Columbus\, OH\, Dave Buker and the Historians have been spreading their brand of Americana since 2010. In 2019\, the band released a third full-length album\, It Moves in the Dark\, and followed it with 2020’s Costumes EP\, a collection of cover songs recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic. \nAfter performing at 2017’s Bunbury Music Festival\, which also featured Death Cab For Cutie and The Shins\, they won CD92.9FM’s Local Artist Contest and opened for Spoon\, Alvvays\, and The Aces – and have subsequently had several headlining performances presented by both CD92.9 and WCBE 90.5FM. \nDave Buker and the Historians have twice been showcased by WOSU-TV’s Broad & High (and subsequently by PBS affiliates across the United States)\, were featured by American Songwriter magazine\, and were highlighted by Chicago’s Off-Kilter magazine. They have been interviewed by The Columbus Dispatch\, Columbus Alive\, and 91.7FM WNJR (Pittsburgh\, PA). \nIn October 2022\, Dave Buker and the Historians released “Stubborn Blood”\, the first single from Heirlooms\, a new album to be released in June 2023. The album was produced through support from the Greater Columbus Arts Council. \n \nWiloh \nIntertwining vocals and unique guitar melodies combine to create the spellbinding sound of folk/americana duo\, Wiloh (Will-oh). At times haunting and at times playful\, the pair weave together stories we all share of love\, grief\, resilience and human connection. \nTaking advantage of the vocal blend that was perfected by years of performing together in various bands\, Jordan Millisor and Emily Syring started writing and creating together in 2020. A couple years later they holed themselves up in a cabin in Hocking Hills with producer Jeff Martin to create what would be their first EP “Falling” released in November of 2022. \n“The ability to see ourselves in other people and to imagine ourselves in their situation is a beautiful part of the human experience\, and it is something we wanted to capture with this project. Some of our songs come from our lives\, some from others\, but at the root of them are emotions that we all share. We wanted to be honest\, and with that honesty\, show people that they are not alone.” \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show. If you have Standing General Admission tickets\, a limited menu of pizza and fries will be available to order from the bar. If you would like to eat before the show we encourage you to make a dinner reservation by clicking the Resy button below. \nBook your Natalie’s Grandview reservation on Resy

SUMMARY:Damien Jurado w/ Chris Pureka - SOLD OUT!
DESCRIPTION:“Play on\, there’s no such thing as better days\,” Damien Jurado sings on “Roger\,” the sweeping wash of a song that opens Reggae Film Star\, his 18th full length album and second release from Jurado’s own Maraqopa Records label. But as he enters his 25th year as a recording artist\, it’s clear these are\, at the least\, very good days for Jurado on the creative front. In these 12 songs\, which evoke half-recalled dreams and overheard conversations\, the cosmic rushes headlong into the autobiographical and specific moments on the clock fade from past to future to scenes set only in the eternal now.\nPlaying out like a backlot documentary filmed on the location of an unnamed TV or film set—maybe a sitcom taping\, or perhaps it’s a low budget science fiction B-movie\, or could it be a talk show?—the album is populated by performers awaiting call times\, camera operators praying for their shot\, and studio audiences rapt with anticipation. The stars here eschew glitz and glamor. Instead\, they wander grocery stores and parking lots in the verdant Pacific Northwest and the desert Southwest\, looking for payphones and a sense of purpose. \nProduced by Jurado with multi-instrumentalist Josh Gordon and recording engineer Alex Bush at Sonikwire studio in Irvine\,CA\, Jurado’s home away from home and musical headquarters\, the record’s compositions are among the most musically rich in his vast discography\, encompassing romantic AM gold\, ‘60s psychedelia\, driving rock & roll\, Latin shuffles\, and left of the dial ambiance. Strings swell\, melodic bass bubbles\, and piano sparkles\, undergirding Jurado’s unmistakable voice\, at once intimately present and ghostly\, grounded in the here and now but capable\, at any moment\, of drifting off into the divinatory. Following threads established by 2021’s The Monster Who Hated Pennsylvania\, the album sees Jurado embracing his auteur era\, penning vignettes that arrive with little fanfare and depart quicker than you might suspect\, only to linger long after they wrap. \n \nChris Pureka \nChris Pureka is an internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter based in Portland\, Oregon. Her elegant emotionality as a vocalist and her flair as a lyricist have garnered her favorable comparisons to Chan Marshall\, Bruce Springsteen\, and Patty Griffin. Over many years of touring on both sides of the Atlantic\, she has shared the stage with such diverse and esteemed artists as The Lumineers\, Gregory Alan Isakov\, The Cowboy Junkies\, Haley Heynderickx\, and Ani DiFranco. She has had her songs featured on such television shows as Brothers and Sisters and Shameless\, as well as a song featured in the Sundance featured indie film\, The Royal Road. The Longest Year is Pureka’s 8th release. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.

SUMMARY:W.I.T.C.H.
DESCRIPTION:W.I.T.C.H. (We Intend To Cause Havoc) were the biggest rock band in Zambia in the 1970s and spearheaded a new genre dubbed Zamrock\, fusing influences that ranged from the Rolling Stones to Black Sabbath and James Brown and mixing them with traditional African rhythms and bush village songs. At t the peak of their popularity\, the band often needed police to keep fans at bay while their lead singer Jagari – whose name is an Africanization of Mick Jagger’s – riled up crowds by stage diving from balconies and dancing manically as the WITCH’s blend of psychedelic rock and African rhythms permeated the surrounding atmosphere. \nJagari is the charismatic sole surviving original member of the band. As Zambia’s economy stagnated and the country buckled under the AIDS crisis\, WITCH fell apart. Jagari retreated to a life of quasi-anonymity as a university music professor before being wrongfully arrested during Zambia’s toughest hour. Now a man in his 60s\, he spends his time mining gemstones hoping to strike it rich\, until very recently the band being just a nostalgic memory of his youth. \nLargely unknown outside of their home country\, WITCH finally got the exposure they deserved when Now Again Records reissued their entire discography in 2012. This allowed Jagari to play outside Africa for the first time and for a new generation of fans to discover his music. In 2016 he began a collaboration with Dutch musicians Jacco Gardner and Nic Mauskoviç\, and together with them\, in September 2017 WITCH headed out on its extremely successful first-ever European Tour. In the Fall of 2019\, WITCH embarked on their first North American tour. They return to the states including this show at The Drake on 10/9 following the screening of the documentary at the Amherst Cinema on 9/7. \nFood & Bar: A limited food menu of pizza and fries as well as our full bar will be available before and during the show. If you would like to eat before the show\, we encourage you to make a dinner reservation by going to Resy.

SUMMARY:Rebecca Loebe w/ Lilli Lewis
DESCRIPTION:Over the past decade\, Austin-based troubadour Rebecca Loebe has been steadily building her audience the old fashioned way: driving hundreds of thousands of  miles in an old station wagon\, performing in listening rooms and theaters across the US\, Canada\,  Japan\, Europe\, and the UK. During her last radio interview in England\, an announcer for the BBC  declared “Your voice should be available for free on the National Health!” \nHer singing voice landed her on national television when she was cast on the first season of NBC’s  The Voice. Ask her about that experience and she’ll proudly tell you that\, since her mentorship with  Adam Levine\, “His career has really skyrocketed and I’m just so proud of that boy.” \nLately she’s been indulging a sneaky pastime. “I like to write catchy songs about topics that are  meaningful to me\, but use fun hooks to put words in people’s mouths.” She admits\, “My favorite  thing is to get people singing along before they even realize they’re singing about women’s  equality or their own self-worth.” \nIn 2019\, she released her fifth studio album\, her first collaboration with the Grammy nominated  Houston-based record label Blue Corn Music. The genre-bending album borrows equally from the  worlds of intimate folk\, ear wormy pop\, and no-holds-barred Americana. \nRefusing to pledge allegiance to any single genre was a creative gamble that has paid off in a big  way: Give Up Your Ghosts has received the best press of Loebe’s career including praise from Billboard\, Rolling Stone\, and legendary rock critic Dave Marsh\, who said: “Once I put it on I couldn’t take it off.” \nLilli Lewis \n \nWebsite | Facebook | Instagram \nProgressive\, provocative\, glorious powerhouse performer with a focus on social justice \n“A powerhouse performer adding her unique voice and talent to the national discussion of the state of social justice in America.” – The Kennedy Center \nThe self-professed Folk Rock Diva Lili Lewis returns to recording with a rootsy\, country soul album that really hits the spot with its melancholy meditations and narratives.  – Americana UK \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.

SUMMARY:Songwriters In The Round: featuring Megan Bee\, Jamie Ravine Sagle\, and Caitlin Kraus
DESCRIPTION:Megan Bee \nSinger-songwriter Megan Bee writes with an unquenchable wanderlust and a deep love for the land. Her latest album “Cottonwood” has been called “as real as it gets – a raw and real telling of engaging\, relatable stories” and was listed in the best of 2022 by Americana UK and No Depression Magazine. SUMMARY:Hoodoo Soul Band
DESCRIPTION:Hoodoo began as a side project for several seasoned veterans of the Columbus music scene who wanted an outlet to play Funk and Rhythm and Blues with a horn section. Primarily a cover band\, Hoodoo is known for curating a unique set list while giving each song their own original treatment. The players effectively turn soul songs into standards which they deconstruct on the fly\, improvising new arrangements in front of the crowd\, and introducing audiences to funky\, unfamiliar gems that quickly become crowd favorites. Most of the group is still made up of the original members but new blood has been introduced over the years. At any given show the line-up may change with only the very best players in the city subbing in. The focus is music and the standards are high. Hoodoo Soul has also been direct support for world-class acts passing through Columbus such as Parliament and Ray Charles among many others. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show. If you have Standing General Admission tickets\, a limited menu of pizza and fries will be available to order from the bar. If you would like to eat before the show we encourage you to make a dinner reservation on Resy for our kitchen side of the venue. \n

SUMMARY:Strangelove: The Depeche Mode Experience
DESCRIPTION:Los Angeles based STRANGELOVE-The Depeche Mode Experience delivers a career spanning\, pitch perfect “best of” concert that transports the listener through time and touches on several key points in Depeche Mode’s 40+ year career. Songs from throughout the Depeche canon are lovingly recreated; from favorites on DM’s debut Speak and Spell to the newest fare from ‘Mode’s latest- 2017’s “Spirit”. No detail of STRANGELOVE’s presentation has been overlooked. The visual presentation with stage set pieces and in-show costume changes reflect different eras of Depeche Mode’s story. \nTruly evocative of a Depeche Mode arena/stadium stage show; the scale of STRANGELOVE’s theatrical stage production is unparalleled\, save for the real article. Custom-produced multimedia projection visuals delight the concertgoer’s senses and enhance the illusion that they’re witnessing an actual Depeche Mode concert. \nThese accomplished musicians have a reverence and devotion to Depeche Mode’s body of work that’s driven them to recreate every possible detail and bring the “Music To The Masses” in a concert setting that transcends a mere tribute production; and feels more like a shared communal fan-club celebration of halcyon days of new wave/emerging electronica. Accuracy and authenticity is a hallmark of the project\, with the band employing as many authentic vintage synthesizers and samplers as possible in recreating the classic and widely varied sounds of Depeche Mode’s discography. \nWith over 120 million records sold and a rabid international fan base\, Depeche Mode’s status as elder statesmen of electronica was recently cemented with their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame last year. Their enormous fan base encompasses all ages and crosses every demographic. Their last stadium/arena tour in 2018 set world box office records. STRANGELOVE –The Depeche Mode Experience brings a thoroughly enjoyable and staggeringly authentic DM concert to concertgoers\, and connects with international audiences\, wherever the group performs. \nFood & Bar: A limited food menu of pizza and fries as well as our full bar will be available before and during the show. SUMMARY:Ally Venable with Special Guest The Sean Carney Band - SOLD OUT!
DESCRIPTION:Texas blues/rock guitarist\, vocalist\, and songwriter Ally Venable has made her fiery presence known around the world since the release of her debut album at 16. Now\, with her fifth solo effort Real Gone! dropping on Ruf Records March 10th\, 2023\, Venable has come of age. \nAt 23\, Venable is already an important artist in the roots music world. Her name has grown in stature with each new album and high-energy gig. She’s an absolutely ripping guitar player with style and tone for days\, a commanding singer\, and a songwriter with the power to make blues music that speaks to contemporary fans. The new record\, produced by Grammy winner Tom Hambridge (Buddy Guy\, Susan Tedeschi)\, features guest appearances by Joe Bonamassa and living legend Buddy Guy. \nVenable is that rare musician who can take her old-school influences like Guy and Stevie Ray Vaughan and create music that brings their spirits to today’s listeners where they live. Together with Isaac Pulido (drums) EJ Bedford (bass)\, she gives audiences an entertaining show packed with musical muscle and relatable songs about living\, growing\, and evolving. When asked where her songs emerge from\, Ally replied “I try to write about what goes on in my life\, or try to write about something I know others can relate to. We all go through things and it’s okay to have feelings about something going on in your life.” \nThe first single from Real Gone! is “Texas Louisiana\,” which is a crackling duet with the one-and-only Buddy Guy. Ally and Buddy are an absolute dream team together\, intertwining their guitars and voices into one without either losing any identity or impact. The title track “Real Gone” is a straight-up\, body-moving rocker that will also be a single. Venable shouts down the microphone like a star while her guitar snarls and sings. \nIn 2022\, Guitar World Magazine named Ally one of the Top 15 ‘Young Guns’ Making the Gibson Les Paul Cool Again and she also received the Road Warrior Award from the Independent Blues Music Awards. She performed as a featured artist on the Experience Hendrix Show in Austin\, TX and appeared alongside Kenny Wayne Shepherd\, Zack Wilde\, Eric Johnson\, Dweezil Zappa\, and other luminaries. \nWith 2019’s Texas Honey and 2021’s Heart of Fire\, Venable found herself topping the Billboard charts. Early releases No Glass Shoes (2016) and Puppet Show (2018) created her fanbase\, charted on radio\, and won several East Texas Music Awards. Venable’s acclaimed performances on Ruf Records’ European Blues Caravan tour brought her international recognition. She has toured the U.S. with Buddy Guy and Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Canada with Colin James. \nThis year\, Ally will be opening for Buddy Guy on his farewell tour\, rocking Europe again on the Blues Caravan Tour\, and doing her own headline shows domestically and abroad. She’s had a rapid rise to fame but gives off the vibe of someone who loves her life and is ok with it all. \nSean Carney \n \nInternationally acclaimed blues guitarist and vocalist Sean Carney along with his band open the show. \nSponsored by Blues For a Cure \n \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show. \n

SUMMARY:The Fifth House “We Still Got Space” Album Release Show
DESCRIPTION:The Fifth House is coming back from their venture out of state while celebrating the release of their sophomore album\, “We Still Got Space”. Join them and friends Third Culture Kid for a night of indie sad girl bops and surfy-punky bangers! \nThe Fifth House \n \nWebsite | Spotify | Instagram | Facebook \nThe Fifth House means “the house of pleasure as a result of creativity” in the world of zodiac and astrology. In the music world\, The Fifth House brings this meaning to life\, as they deliver the music from their minds to the audience with no mistranslation or bounds in between. The group does not believe in cramming the style that naturally flows from you into any mold for the sake of an already existing genre. \nAs said by music review site Bravado Press\, “The band has been handing out lollipops tasting like indie bops for years.” But this time around\, the band is also using their music as a platform and a voice for those affected by serious matters such as addiction and abuse for their new album\, “We Still Got Space.” \nSince the band is fronted by Julia Crow on vocals and bass\, a lot of the songs have noticeable lead on the bass\, with crying counter melodies on guitar from her brother\, Wesley Crow. His wife\, Caroline Crow paints dreamy soundscapes with her skills on the keys and luscious vocal harmonies. Long time friend\, Luke Kaylor\, does more than drive the bands’ often “surfy” backbeat on drums. He creates intricate and atmospheric textures with hints of polyrhythmic beats that blend in seamlessly. \nThe Fifth House is dynamic- they’re the much-needed cry in a heavy storm\, followed by the comfort of the warm evening sunset in the moody Midwest. \nThird Culture Kid \n \nWebsite | Instagram \nColumbus\, Ohio’s Third Culture Kid is Katie Larson (Vocals\, Guitars)\, Toby French (Guitars\, Drums\, Vocals) Christian Hinojosa (Guitars\, Bass)\, Eric Trent (Drums)\, and Josiah Lansford (Piano\, Synth\, Vocals). Toby\, Katie\, and Christian started Third Culture Kid in 2021 because we want to make music that speaks to the people in-between. \nThe international students\, who grew up torn between countries\, with no place that felt like home. The not-quite-teenagers\, not-quite-adults\, who can’t wait to get out of the house and make their own way\, but are terrified of how to get there. \nThe gay kids in Church\, who get told they can’t both be open about their sexuality\, and be a Christian. The kids who grew up with two different families\, and neither one quite feels as safe as it should. We were and are those kids\, and we want to tell our stories\, in all their messy glory. \nWhen you listen to Third Culture Kid\, we hope you feel known\, because in some way\, we all feel stuck in-between. And maybe that’s not such a bad place to be\, because it’s in the middle of the mess of being human that we find ourselves. \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show. If you have Standing General Admission tickets\, a limited menu of pizza and fries will be available to order from the bar. SUMMARY:Shemekia Copeland
DESCRIPTION:“Shemekia Copeland has established herself as one of the leading blues artists of our time.” – NPR Music \nMultiple Blues award winner and grammy nominee\, soul and Americana singer Shemekia Copeland  aka The Queen Of the Blues\,  possesses one of the most instantly recognizable and deeply soulful roots music voices of our time. She is beloved worldwide for the fearlessness\, honesty and humor of her revelatory music\, as well as for delivering each song she performs with unmatched passion. Copeland—winner of the 2021 Blues Music Award for B.B. King Entertainer Of The Year—connects with her audience on an intensely personal level\, taking them with her on what The Wall Street Journal calls “a consequential ride” of “bold and timely blues.” NPR Music says Shemekia sings with “punchy defiance and potent conviction.” The Houston Chronicle describes her songs as “resilient pleas for a kinder tomorrow.” \nWith every album and every show\, Copeland continues the story she has been telling for decades\, reflecting her vision of America’s past\, present and future. She delivers her hard-hitting musical truths through her eyes\, those of a young American Black woman\, a mother\, and a wife. But she likes to have a good time too\, and her music reflects that at times putting her sly sense of humor front and center. “This album was made by all sides of me—happy\, sad\, silly\, irate—they’re all a part of who I am and who we all are. I’m not political. I’m just talking about what’s happening in this country.” \nCopeland is used to the spotlight. Born and raised in Harlem\, New York\, she first stepped on stage with her famous father\, Texas bluesman Johnny Clyde Copeland\, at New York’s Cotton Club when she was eight. As soon as Copeland released her debut recording Turn The Heat Up in 1998 at age 18\, she instantly became a blues and R&B force to be reckoned with. The New York Times and CNN\, among many others\, praised her talent\, larger-than-life personality\, dynamic\, authoritative voice and true star power. \nSpecial guests Deuce n’ a Quarter join for a night you won’t want to miss! \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.

SUMMARY:William Lee Ellis with special guest Tony Ellis
DESCRIPTION:Tradition-bred songsmith and fleet fingerpicker William Lee Ellis returns to Natalie’s to celebrate the release of his brand new Yellow Dog Records release Ghost Hymns. Ellis’s trademark sound\, a personalized mix of acoustic blues\, folk\, bluegrass\, and world music\, is on full display for Ghost Hymns\, an album that veers effortlessly from gospel\, shape note\, and blues to old-time\, ragtime\, and high life on twelve original compositions and arrangements. \nWilliam Lee Ellis comes by his musical prowess naturally. His father\, North Carolina native Tony Ellis\, is a veteran of Bill Monroe’s early-‘60s Blue Grass Boys. Tony Ellis – the inaugural Ohio Heritage Fellowship recipient for performing arts in 2003 – is able to drive the five-string with the best of them\, as he did on the acclaimed 1993 Masters of the Banjo tour and album produced by the National Council for Traditional Arts. Bill backed his father for decades on record and tours\, and his father’s influence can be heard…”More than any of my previous albums\, I hear the weight of my dad’s musical imprint on my own\, which is perhaps why I’ve chosen this album to finally play some banjo and arrange one of his most elegant fiddle tunes.”   \n“It has been a few years since I last recorded for the incredibly special roots label\, Yellow Dog Records\,” William Lee Ellis said. “During that time\, I stepped into the world of academia and earned a PhD in ethnomusicology at the University of Memphis under famed blues scholar David Evans. No surprise\, my dissertation was on the music of Rev. Gary Davis.” He then left the Bluff City\, his home of 15 years\, for Vermont\, where he is an Associate Professor of Music and Chair of the Fine Arts Department at Saint Michael’s College.  \n“Conceived during Covid when the world had shut down – and away from the rooted sense of place that had long been Memphis for me – Ghost Hymns bears its own stamp of time and place thanks to the global virtuosi in Vermont and beyond\, I have come to know as friends. This album reflects those friendships\, heard as musical conversations with a traveled reach and reverence for the voices of traditions past. This is the heart of traditional music and of the music I write\, with one ear ever bent to the pre-WWII blues and gospel pioneers\, the buskers and street players\, the famous and obscure alike\, whose riffs and rhymes bore witness to an often cruel and indifferent world and whose music personally remains a musical if not moral guide.” \nFood & Bar: Our full food and drink menu will be available before and during the show.
