Jeb Loy Nichols
w' Ricky Barnes and Henry Barnes

Natalie’s presents a special evening of music featuring a rare US appearance by Jeb Loy Nichols, along with special guests Ricky Barnes and Henry Barnes.
Born in the American mid-west, Jeb Loy Nichols was raised on a diet of bluegrass and county music. “I went to bluegrass festivals with my dad and come home and listened to Nat King Cole with my mother. The first music I really felt was mine was southern soul. I used to listen to the radio at night and fell in love with Bobby Womack and Al Green, The Staple Singers and Joe Simon – that whole Nashville/Memphis/Muscle Shoals thing.”
When he was fifteen, he heard his first punk record: ‘God Save The Queen’ by The Sex Pistols. “That and The Ramones completely changed me.” In 1979 he got a scholarship to go to art school in New York where he fell in love with the emerging hip-hop scene. From there he went to London where he lived with Neneh Cherry and Ari Up (from the Slits). 20 years ago, he left London for the Welsh hills. He’s recorded 13 critically acclaimed solo records and, before that, 5 records with the band Fellow Travellers. A book of his artwork, ‘I Need You To Tell Me Something Different’, was published in 2007. His first novel, ‘The Untogether’, was published in 2008. A further 2 novels published in 2019 and 2022. He continues to write, produce art, make music, and plant trees.
Henry Barnes is known for taking the blue ribbon at many fiddle competitions and is recognized as a Master of Traditional Arts by the state of Ohio for his work to introduce teenagers to the oldest living generation of Ohio musicians.. Ali Kafka spent her formative musical years as a busker in New Orleans and is known for her unique thumb-style guitar playing that showcases her love of early recording-era country blues and southern string band music.
Ricky Barnes, formerly of the Columbus based band Ricky Barnes and the Hoot Owls, is currently a self-taught artist working in a folk art tradition.
