Kimbone and The Maestro Sound: Soul Sunday

Hosted by Debra James Tucker

The Soul Sunday Series hosted by Debra James Tucker continues with Kimbone and The Maestro Sound! Yes, The Trombone King is coming to Natalie’s! Rooted in faith and driven by soul, Kimbone Kimistry is a gospel and soul artist whose music carries a message of hope, healing, and spiritual revival. A gifted songwriter, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist, Kimbone blends the raw emotion of soul with the power of gospel to create a sound that uplifts hearts and moves spirits.

Born in Buffalo, New York and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Kimbone’s musical journey began in the church, where he first encountered the transforming power of gospel music. At just eight years old, he picked up the trombone—a choice that earned him the nickname “Kimbone”—and later mastered the baritone and tuba. His deep-rooted musicality and spiritual passion shine through every note.

Inspired by gospel legends like Deitrick Haddon, Mali Music, and J Moss—whom he has collaborated with—Kimbone carries forward a legacy of music with meaning. His artistry is more than performance; it’s ministry.

At the heart of his live shows is The Maestro Sound Band, a dynamic collective of gifted musicians who bring depth, soul, and energy to every stage they touch. Together, they create a sonic experience that blends gospel traditions with modern soul, jazz, and funk influences. Offstage, Kimbone is committed to using music as a tool for healing. Through his Sound Mind Project, he advocates for mental health awareness and support in his community, using faith-based music to restore peace to the mind and soul.

The unique sound of vocalist Debra James Tucker is a product of extensive training in jazz, classical and gospel music. Her new album is “Voices”, which continues her exploration of early black church forms in contemporary contexts. She is the writer/performer of the one woman show Survival of the Boulevard Singer-winner of an Ohio Arts Council Award for Individual Excellence, has been a visiting instructor at Denison University in the history of African American Gospel Music, and an artist in residence with several youth arts organizations.
