LynMonty Music: Soul Sunday

Hosted by Debra James Tucker

The Soul Sunday Series, hosted by Debra James Tucker, continues with Lynetta “LynMonty” Randolph-Montgomery, who began playing piano at the age of seven! From there, she added drums, bass, and saxophone to her repertoire and honed her skills while playing for various churches and bands in West Virginia, North Carolina, and now Ohio. She played sax for Wake Forest University’s Marching Band and served as Music Director/Bassist for the University’s Gospel Choir. LynMonty has been playing keyboards for both Jah Soul (a Dayton-based funk-reggae-soul party band) and Seefari since 2013. More recently, she has become a founding member of 6 Degrees of Dub and also has an ever-growing catalog of original music of all genres that she has written, composed and produced herself.

The Soul Sunday Series is hosted and coordinated by vocalist Debra James Tucker, with extensive training in jazz, classical and gospel music. Her new album is “Voices”, which continues her exploration of early black church forms in contemporary contexts. She is the writer/performer of the one woman show Survival of the Boulevard Singer-winner of an Ohio Arts Council Award for Individual Excellence, has been a visiting instructor at Denison University in the history of African American Gospel Music, and an artist in residence with several youth arts organizations.
