Priscilla Woodson Presents the 2nd Annual PEER Center Benefit Concert

  • This event has passed.

Celebrating 17 years of Hope, Connection, and recovery.  Priscilla Woodson presents: The P.E.E.R. Center’s 2nd Annual Benefit Event featuring Grammy nominated recording artist Norman V. Whiteside and MC Entertaining /Educational host Gabe Howard.

The P.E.E.R. Center (Peers Enriching Each others’ Recovery) opened in January 2007 as a peer operated drop-in recovery program within our parent / founding agency, Columbus Area, Inc.  In January 2010, it became a free-standing non-profit organization, independent of Columbus Area, Inc. Then, in May 2011, The P.E.E.R. Center merged with Partners in Active Living, another drop-in center in Columbus’s Short North.  The sites held celebrations in July 2011 to present a newly enlarged organization and the creation of The P.E.E.R. Center “East” and “North.”  The next transition took place in December 2013 when The P.E.E.R. Center North site relocated to the West side of Columbus in the Franklinton area, hence the beginning of The P.E.E.R. Center West.

The P.E.E.R. Center’s mission is to provide a safe place where individuals receive respect, encouragement and hope that supports and strengthens their recovery in mental health, addictions and trauma.  All staff at The P.E.E.R. Center have a history of mental health, addiction and/or trauma concerns and are in long-term recovery themselves who have, through various and multiple pathways, been on the journey of recovery.  They strive to support others at their own pace on their own path towards recovery, regardless of where they currently may be.

From the beginning, The P.E.E.R. Center was intended to serve as a place where peers (people with lived experience) could learn about their illness or addictions, talk with others about their struggles and recovery, and spend time with others who have “walked the walk” to improve their lives.  We do this by offering a variety of peer support groups, socialization and recreational opportunities, as well as a media center and resource center – with access to computer lab and phone use, to assist people with their needs.
