Songwriters in the Round with Ron Freeman, Matt Thompson and Joey Viola
- This event has passed.
Join us for a night of storytelling with songwriters in the round hosted by Ron Freeman with friends Matt Thompson and Joey Viola.
Joey Viola is an award-winning Singer-Songwriter from Columbus, Ohio (Clintonville). He also is the lead singer of the blues rock project, Magnolia. His solo works stem from his life experience in themes that people can relate to. Love and loss, growth, the socio-political climate.
Matt Thompson is a singer/songwriter who has been performing in Columbus for over 20 years. He is currently the songwriter and lead singer for the Columbus indie rock band True Sparrow. As a solo musician he has self-released three albums “No Death Rattle”, “The Getting Through”, and “Ignoring the Underlay”, and True Sparrow has recently released their first album “Timeworn Two-Step” on vinyl. Matt’s songs are a blend of folk, rock, and country blues, with introspective lyrics that carry weight, but not without a touch of humor.
Ron Freeman is a singer/songwriter and member of Lost Orchards, a Columbus, Ohio Americana band with two EPs: “Deaf Kids” and “Assassins”, a concept record about the love affairs of presidential assassins. Ron’s songs have been described as “strange,” “cerebral,” and “like a really good ice cream cone that melts faster than you can eat it.” With a fresh perspective and a lyric-driven approach, Ron is a natural storyteller who chronicles unique subjects like the invention of the high five, the closing of restaurants, and Civil War era religious cults. He is really hoping the full length album he has been working on forever comes out soon.
