Hosted by Debra James Tucker
- This event has passed.
The Soul Sunday series hosted by Debra James Tucker continues with Starlit Ways, an acoustic duo made of international singer Rose Nkechi and guitarist Chris Glover.
Rose has performed the U.S. national anthem at the 2024 U.S. Skating Figure Championships hosted in Columbus OH and the bilingual Canadian national anthem for the 2023 Columbus Crew vs. Toronto game. She recently joined the Columbus Symphony Chorus as a Soprano II and participated in the Symphony’s Bravo series: Mozart’s Mass in C minor, a two-day concert held at the Ohio Theater in the spring of 2024. Her truly gifted vocals and stylish story-telling in multiple languages such as French, Spanish, and Italian (to name a few) delivered with great flair, embarks listeners on a delightful journey of her love and passion for music.
Chris is an excellent self-taught acoustic and electric guitarist who also adds remarkable vocal backup and leads of his own. His detailed attention to the mood of a song and remarkable accompanying skills, along with his clean and colorful finger style truly unveil his passion for music.
Together they are a dynamic musical duo performing an eclectic repertoire varying from Jazz classics, Waltz, Broadway, modern tunes and even country. They have been featured as part of ABC 6’s Good Day Columbus and have performed at renowned venues such as Natalie’s Grandview, the Lincoln theater, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Sosnick Courtyard as headliners for the Poetry & Music: A Starlit Night event, and at events such as the Columbus Arts Festival, Westerville Arts Festival and many more.
The unique sound of vocalist Debra James Tucker is a product of extensive training in jazz, classical and gospel music. Her new album is “Voices”, which continues her exploration of early black church forms in contemporary contexts. She is the writer/performer of the one woman show Survival of the Boulevard Singer—winner of an Ohio Arts Council Award for Individual Excellence, has been a visiting instructor at Denison University in the history of African American Gospel Music, and an artist in residence with several youth arts organizations.
