  • This event has passed.

The Gospel Soul Series, hosted by Debra James Tucker, continues with Stephen J Ballard, a dynamic singer, songwriter, and composer whose musical brilliance has become a cornerstone in the world of contemporary and traditional gospel. With a sound rooted in worship, excellence, and innovation, Stephen has served as both a minister and a maestro. Bridging generations of gospel through his unique blend of anointing, artistry, and authenticity.

From the soulful streets of Brooklyn School for Music & Theatre (Class of 2010) to national stages alongside gospel legends, Stephen has shared his gift with some of the most powerful voices in the industry. A Grammy and Stellar Award–nominated musician, his artistry was recognized for his work on Pastor David Wright’s children’s album affirming his reputation as a creative force who elevates every project he touches.

As the visionary behind StephTunes Music, Stephen built a brand dedicated to producing music that speaks to the soul while training and developing the next generation of musicians. His company provides original compositions, production, vocal arrangements, and live music direction for artists and ministries worldwide rooted in the belief that music should not only sound good but serve purpose.

Through his nonprofit endeavor, The Sound of Music Institute, Stephen extends his gift beyond the stage to the community. As Founder and Music Director, he creates opportunities for young, aspiring musicians to grow in a supportive, faith-based environment. His mission is to cultivate musical excellence, teamwork, and creativity while preparing students for ensemble performance and lifelong musicianship.

Stephen has written dozens of original songs inspired by his own walk with God and his life experiences. His compositions featured on projects by Lady Geneatha Wright, including Forever You Reign, Fill This Place, Victory, and The Promise reflect his deep faith, emotional depth, and commitment to authentic worship.

This monthly series is hosted and coordinated by Debra James Tucker, who has received extensive training in jazz, classical and gospel music. She is the writer/performer of the one woman show Survival of the Boulevard Singer—winner of an Ohio Arts Council Award for Individual Excellence, has been visiting instructor at Denison University in the history of African American Gospel Music, and an artist in residence with several youth arts organizations.
