Sydney McSweeney & The Justin Dawson Trio

Sydney McSweeney alongside the Justin Dawson Trio can be defined by their way to tell stories when they are playing. Specifically love stories. They dive deep into the lyrics, melody and harmony to bring the audience on a journey with them through joy, love heartbreak, sadness and happiness to showcase how deep and how vast love is and how ever changing it can be. Wether it be with a lover, friend, or family member we all experience love and through can experience being alive and having joy for life.

A relatively new group out of Ohio that has their first album coming out later this year, but each musician has enough musical experience that it feels like they’ve been playing together for years. The band consists of four musicians alongside Sydney McSweeney on vocals and Justin Dawson leading the trio on acoustic bass.  Dan Karlsberg on piano and Josiah Wolf on drums round out the rest of the band. Each musician has been leading or been apart of projects in the music world for decades including Sydney’s extensive stent singing with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra with Byron Stripling as well as Josiah co-leading the band Why? with his brother Yoni Wolf. Dan has been leading his own trios and quintets for over a decade and Justin Dawson has been on the scene for the past 5 years playing with big names such as Randy Brecker, Terell Stafford, Antonio Hart and Tim Warfield. With each musicians different musical backgrounds the chemistry and the musical choices being made our entirely unique and spontaneous. As well as playing jazz classics from the great American songbook they also dabble outside that realm to other material that lends itself to the same type of stories including the music of Elliot Smith and Adrienne Linker.
