From Ohio, with Love – Concert for Ukraine with Brother Hill and Benya Stewart

A night of grassroots fundraising, featuring silent auctions and sales of Ukrainian goods by Bobcats (Ohio University) for Ukraine. Benefiting Ukraine First Aid and distributing desperately needed medical supplies across Ukraine.
Brother Hill (Dayton) and Benya Stewart (Athens) are Ohio folk musicians playing a variety of original music and songs they have learned across the world. Outside of their solo releases and work with Appalachian folk quintet “Hill Spirits”, the two have been collaborating with Ukrainian and Belarusian musicians in the Slavic-Appalachian Folk alliance “Slavalachia” since 2019, to promote traditional folk music and international cultural solidarity.
When war broke out after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, they immediately began organizing benefit shows across Ohio that eventually came to raise over $40,000 for Ukrainian organizations. This included $20,000 worth of Advanced Bleeding Control Kits from North American Rescue which Brett and Benya hand-delivered to Ukraine in May. These 245 desperately needed kits were immediately delivered to frontline operations across Kramatorsk and Kharkiv.
Now the pair seek to scale up their operations to raise $100,000 for another medical supply delivery in October, for an armored vehicle for a friend extracting refugees from the frontlines, and to support a refugee shelter in L’viv run by another friend of theirs.
“Our platform is all about grassroots folk support, people supporting people. We have personal relationships with every organization and/or individual we support, and donated funds never go through more than two degrees of separation from source to destination. Help us continue this most important work of supporting our friends and family across Ukraine in this time of most desperate need there.”
