Jasmine Spitzer: Soul Sunday

hosted by Debra James Tucker

The Soul Sunday Series hosted by Debra James Tucker continues with Jasmine Spitzer, a singer, songwriter, and educator who seeks to glorify God through music that uplifts and connects. Rooted in faith, her voice carries influences from gospel, soul, jazz, and blues, creating a sound that feels both personal and timeless. Her hope is simple: to use music as a space where people can pause, reflect, and experience love.

Jasmine will be joined by David Swank (piano), Jeff Bass (bass), and Reggie Jackson (drums), along with special guests throughout the evening. Together, they will share songs from some of Jasmine’s favorite artists—CeCe Winans, Gregory Porter, Dianne Reeves, Lisa McClendon, and more—alongside her own original work. These songs are chosen not only for their beauty but also for their ability to bridge traditions, carrying the spirit of gospel, the depth of soul, the freedom of jazz, and the heart of the blues.

The evening promises a warm, reflective, and soulful atmosphere, perfect for slowing down, reconnecting with your own thoughts, and sharing in the joy of music with others. Jasmine’s goal is to create a space where people can be inspired, encouraged, and reminded of the ways music can uplift the spirit and bring hearts together.

The unique sound of vocalist Debra James Tucker is a product of extensive training in jazz, classical and gospel music. Her new album is “Voices”, which continues her exploration of early black church forms in contemporary contexts. She is the writer/performer of the one woman show Survival of the Boulevard Singer-winner of an Ohio Arts Council Award for Individual Excellence, has been a visiting instructor at Denison University in the history of African American Gospel Music, and an artist in residence with several youth arts organizations.
